This game looks great. Pretty much Jurassic Park but without the licence with a bit of Theme Park thrown in. It's gone on the wishlist so I would imagine I'll get a play some time soon . 7.8 on BGG. NBP is Zatu (there are other sellers similar to deal price but are non-approved).

Dinosaur Island is a game by designers Jon Gilmour (Dead of Winter, Wasteland Express Delivery Service) and Brian Lewis (Titans of Industry) and published by Pandasaurus Games (Machi Koro, Yedo, Wasteland Express Delivery Service) with amazing technicolor, ridiculously '90s artwork from Kwanchai Moriya and Peter Wocken.

In Dinosaur Island, players will have to collect DNA, research the DNA sequences of extinct dinosaur species, and then combine the ancient DNA in the correct sequence to bring these prehistoric creatures back to life. Dino cooking! All players will compete to build the most thrilling park each season, and then work to attract (and keep alive!) the most visitors each season that the park opens.

Do you go big and create a pack of Velociraptors? They'll definitely excite potential visitors, but you'd better make a large enough enclosure for them. And maybe hire some (read: a lot of) security. Or they WILL break out and start eating your visitors, and we all know how that ends. You could play it safe and grow a bunch of herbivores, but then you aren't going to have the most exciting park in the world (sad face). So maybe buy a roller coaster or two to attract visitors to your park the good old-fashioned way?

£45 for a board game??!! What's do special about it

Also further to what Jay said around components, a lot of research and development time goes in to board games. A game as Monopoly is basically a role move buy / pay game. No real decisions to be made except which property to build on and even then this is pure guess work. These modern board games often have little to no luck (more random events) and have complex decisions to be made, this takes designer's years to balance the games. As a result £45 is more a mid range price to a high price.

Amazing game! This is the retail version

There is a deluxe version (hard to find) that has upgrades such as metal coins, plastic scientist meeples, different dinosaur meeple shapes (retail has 1 shape for all dinosaur types), hooligan mixer bag and 1st player wrist slap band

Just so that people know. Nothing differs in gameplay though!

Highly recommended game - get it for someone who loves a good board game for xmas, or for yourself if you want to dip your toes in a light worker placement / euro game with a fantastic theme!

Was the deluxe a KS exclusive? Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I'll almost certainly be getting this sooner rather than later

Yes it was kickstarter exclusive - there have been 2 print runs of it though (1 for each kickstarter) so a few knock about on eBay from time to time

That's how I snagged my copy 👌

Usually the number of components in the box, the amount of design time gone into it etc.
Modern board games tend to come with a lot of stuff in them and this is no exception.
If you think this is expensive, Google Gloomhaven!
Had this on my radar for a while, after watching Rahdo on youtube do a play through I'm so very tempted now...

You are in a specialist field here - these games arent for people that are content with the crap you get in WH Smith.

They arent getting the same economies of scale or loss leadership that other games have.

Not that there is anything wrong with Traditional Board Games but this isn't one of them, as you say
