The trigger is the extradition bill, citizen protest peacefully, but government ignore and carry on the 2nd read, citizen peacefully protest, but government ignore again and put police at the frontline. Police use excessive tear gas, police captured numerous of time beating people after people already pinned down on the floor or hand cuffed. Citizen get more and more angry and request the 5demands fulfilled. Government refused to meet 5 demands and police carry on arresting protestors with excessive force, protestor violence escalated, and police escalated their force too. There are suspicious protestors died due to police brutality, lots of suspicious dead bodies found due to ‘suicide’, protestor claimed they have been sexually assaulted and even raped when they were kept in the police station. Citizen demands independent committee to carry out investigation, but government declined, citizen come out to make their voice but got sun pressed by the police and more people arrested.
Yes, Chinese government didn’t ‘involve’ but do you honestly think Hong Kong government can do things that Chinese government not approve of?
yes Hong Kong people is fighting ‘Hong Kong people’, but are they really are?
I have no idea what you are talking about the 4 eyed kid. I do not believe any one could start a protest with so many people supporting it and for such a long period. This kind of protest is not new, it happened through out human history, please look at history and look at what happens in Ukraine recently.
When I was there in August, it was still okay. Wouldn't go now unless I have to. Even my relatives in HK are advising me not to return.
haha I was about to make a similar sounding comment
The whole situation is unfortunate and hopefully can be resolved at some point in the near future although that is probably optimistic. Just posted this mainly for people who have to travel Hong Kong regardless of the current political situation (i.e to visit family, business etc..)
No Hong Kong are fighting amongst themselves! This wasn't caused by China, most of them don't know what they're fighting for?! This is definitely fake news, the 4 eyed kid who started all this has been paid off and living a cushy life in Canada or the US now in a 200,000 apartment.. when has China ever been involved... I was told the Chinese had crossed over in tanks by know nothing rumour mongers
The Hong Kong police now just set upon /throw tear gas no matter what eg tourists, walk by general residents that means anyone include journalists. They don't bother if it is enclosed areas, multi stories resident building (eg 7th floor) and any famous shopping malls even at many cases aimed at empty streets.
Hong Kong police buy new tear gas canisters from mainland China
People /doctor used to know what the ingredients but now the police use Chinese make ones without disclose to public/ doctors the Ingredients. These tear gas now have crazy side effects such as create high temperatures (numerous cases of serious burn victims) also more danger : explosive.
Such chemical residues (maybe high degree of cyanide) would stayed around in the air and any contacted services areas for a long time (in addition of air pollution spread from the Mainland China).
The health department head (used to be a health Professor) replies to journalists that everything is OK. She claims one could even use just water to clean up. Would you believe what she says?

They believe what they want to believe and will twist everything even though its shown to them
Thank F for this seriously!!! I'm not here to convince anybody otherwise... strangely my previous reply got nuked, though I snap shot it... I was just saying I have relatives there and my parents just came back from yuen long... and no they are not protesting just picking up pay packet

Great spot OP that is a cracking price and free's up funds for the obligatory Macau overnighter where you can recoup the cost of the entire holiday with some shrewd investment.
Don't forget cracking deals on electronics in the mega markets of Hong Kong and Shenzhen. With 30KG luggage allowance thats a hefty haul of eBay fodder if you travel out light.
Sheriff.
Extradition bill has gone...this should be finished but instead they demand more and more....so what next...give them the demands then a 6th or 7th and if they don’t get it they turn to more rioting? Threats similar to terrorists...other police forces world wide would have shot and killed the rioters by now! Petrol bombing, attacking officers, stabbing officers with a knife...definitely would have been killed by now...so many stories that so happened to come out now and it’s all against the police?? Any excuse really!! I got a paper cut from a speeding ticket...police’s fault...I should riot!!
Mainly Friday , Sat , Sunday have the protests / rioters.
Not once have I felt unsafe here although I do avoid weekends and don't wear white or black t shirts.
You run the risk of mtrs been closed down or shops closing early especially over the weekend.
Theres a possibility your return flight could be affected and cancelled.
Hotels are very cheap now.(so if you're on a budget now's the time to visit) decent hotels been slashed right down to as low as £30 a night upwards.
There's so many places you can visit around hk while avoiding the most heavy hit areas (weekends mostly)
You can pop over to Macau by ferry for a few days , only takes approx 45mins.
It's sad to see what's happening but don't let it put you off coming here you will still enjoy your trip. Also you have Lantau , Chang chau , sai kung ,disneyland and many more places you could visit and enjoy.
Heat added good price.
Beijing has been gradually eroding freedoms/banning political candidates..........that's the cause of the anger.
Interesting, thanks. We have a trip booked for February so this information is very useful.
Thinking of going to Disneyland for the weekend (to avoid the trouble) and then staying in Kowloon during the week.
Do you need a visa for Macau?
British passport you are good in Macau for 6 months without visa.
There's a few different places around Hong Kong you can take the turbo jet ferry from.
Use the app Klook. The ferry tickets are cheaper (about £3_4 quid cheaper) each way.
Very easy and straight forward going to Macau definitely worth a visit for one two days while you're in Hong Kong. ( they use HKD all over Macau also so you don't need to exchange it to Macau Pataca, MOP)
Thanks, more info to digest! Unfortunately we don't have long in HK but it's good to have options.
Haha Classic 5 cents boy. Risking their future and don’t even know what they’re fighting for? You’ve lost your mind.
I have no issues with people protesting peacefully, but I draw the line at mindless vandalism. There are lots of people in Scotland who want independence, but they don't go around wrecking the airport.
I think you'll be waiting a while
They would if Westminster was banning political candidates.
it is nice to hear your side of story but I am afraid it is not what those (at least) 2 millions Hong Kong People think
hey, please kindly let me know how to get quick money like that. I want quick money to pay for my bills, help please. Also do they pay in cash?
Wait a minutes… how much would be enough for one to risk their own life facing those brutal Hong Kong Policemen, they don’t act with official rules such is supported by the government (back by Mainland China), they are also heavy arms and have load of weapons/ equipment/unlimited money to choice.
These police force now even look down to other civil forces eg fireman, ambulances, immigration officers and doctors. They now pushed fireman /ambulance around, aiming tear gas at them while firemen/medical team are doing their job.
so now these Hong Kong Polices could do whatever they like, they mostly like to crash skulls with their batons (such against their own rules) even if no struggle occurred, they know how to twist people’s hands so victims might have long term problems. Their skills includes crashing people's shoulders, arms into pieces.
They also forced large group of peaceful people (they only sit inside a small football court) to kneel down to them over half hour without any reason or charges.
They also no longer need to show their police permit. They just only need to saying they are police and do whatever they like. One light glance at them you could be dead/ beaten and beg for mercy.
All of the above has been documented /videos by many journalists and hospital doctors.
So do tell me how much is good enough for one to face such harsh outcomes and top that with facing 10 years jail time. Or being handicapped.
Oh don’t forget even the court release you because the police force plant evidences (also such had been documented and video by journalists), one would still face all the troublesome during the time between all court hearing and dealing with continueous police harassment.
By the way nearly 3000 people had been caught, there’s largely claimed brutal beating, sexual harassment ...some even claim rape to female and male inside the police station during the 48 hours kept procedure.
so I have to admit that I am no way to earn such money, cheers.
yes they do protesting for a long time, if you like to know the fact. 2 millions people came out to street on very hot days from young to old one. So one would ask what had happen to evolve to such altercation.
about Scotland you mention here : do tell if the government intend to kill their own citizen or else?
I am also not sure what you are saying about "wrecking the airport". Please kindly browse online about the Hong Kong (style) Dunkirk evacuation at the airport, thanks.
I know it is ease to be a armchair speaker (me too) then those fighting with their lives on street, those people kept a will with them on street in case tragedy happens. So please don't put salt on wounds unnecessary.
There had been photos documented the government workers and police control/break the crossing lights so to make whole thing look worse to those protesters, also there are insider from related government office back such stories.
About MTR, they now take direct order from the police and closed services whenever they like, they also use it only for mass transfer police. All this altercation happened after 31st August as there are horror scene of police attack general citizens at the carriages. The police acted like crazy murderers at the scene (documented and video by journalists) then the police closed the station. Public has since suspected people had been killed as missing people are growing. MTR refused firmly to show the CCTV about such attack.
The MTR 's inhuman act angered the public and they are now not public service (thought they are largely own by the public), they closed whenever without alert, so people take their own hand whenever the MTR behave like that.
I am not saying I support those act but I like to look at both side stories.
The police are out of control.
Don't go to Hong Kong unless you have to.

What do you expect when protestors attack armed police. If this was the USA then a lot more people would be getting shot.
PS - I don't supose you have a video of the pro government supporter who was doused in fuel and set alight by protestors?
are you living in a real world or only get information from closed knitted groups.
Please get the fact right, if police brutality happens in USA, there would be a open investigation. All the involved officers would be temp off duty. Everything would be transparent and deal with professional way.
When the police force is found wrong, the officers and the team would get proper court hearing by the government and public group, those culprits would get what they deserved in jailed or disciplined.
The authority would also need to do a public review and make an official publication to avoid such wrong doing occurs again. This is how democracy works not just by one man says.
So please live in the real world. Don't plant fake news unless you are employed to do so.
Secondly your argument about brutally or attacks, do browse online about Hong Kong Police brutality and the Hong Kong protesters get knife attack etc. I would not support violence but one must learn both side stories so to avoid lost the whole pictures.
If US police were attacked my mobs of civillians using iron bars, petrol bombs and bows & arrows, then I am certain there would be a robust response.
People in Hong Kong need to wake up and smell the coffee. They are part of China and there is no reason why they shouldn't be treated like the rest of China. Rule out independence it's not going to happen.
