100% agree. Hotels are pricey, but try HotelTonight if you are willing to risk it. We pre booked our hotel, but when we got there we found the same hotel for 30% cheaper on hoteltonight...

I stayed at Hyatt Place in Emeryville Oakland, just 20 minute bus journey from SF. Prices are much cheaper and it was a good hotel.

Also best to book during the weekend that is when prices are at its lowest.

anyone figure out how much this would be with a suitcase to be checked in?
I went to SF for the first time three weeks ago. Really nice place and was great weather. There was so much to do wish I had longer there.

Yes there was homeless, in some places alot but they never seemed to bother anyone. Just ignore, and they will do the same. Did spot a couple of dudes completely passed out on the floor with needles around them - not the best sight.
We finally visited San Francisco in May ... lovely place, but it was freezing, so assume it will be colder Jan-March. Always heard there were a lot of homeless, but was still a shock when we were there.

I had visited SF,Chicago,Washington DC,NY in September. Out of all of them SF and NY had really bad homeless problem. I was shocked at of the amount in NY, saw a lot of them suffering from mental problems, USA really needs to sort that out.

Was not a fan of NY, Manhattan was overcrowded noisey. Chicago and Washington DC were the least crowded and cleanest. My fav was Chicago as I found it more beautiful then NY.
Can use as an in-out flight to explore around California. Had an amazing trip early April this year. Went up the coast to the Redwoods, to Crater Lake in Oregon, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. Some of those locations will be inaccessible due to snow before April but nonetheless there is lots of opportunity to explore if you added a car to these flights and the hotels away from downtown SF will be much more reasonable.
