Synopsis
Veteran actor Clint Eastwood stars as inspector 'Dirty' Harry Callahan of the San Francisco Police Department in this iconic series.
In THE DEAD POOL a film crew place bets on which celebrities they think will fall foul of a crazed serial killer. In DIRTY HARRY, a tough, unorthodox police detective goes on the trail of a psychotic killer who's been terrorising the city of San Francisco. In MAGNUM FORCE, a police inspector has the grim task of tracking down a killer within police ranks who is cold-bloodedly slaughtering villains. SUDDEN IMPACT sees Dirty Harry investigating a series of brutal murders in a small town. The bloodshed continues with THE ENFORCER, in which an unredeemable individual who enjoys killing teams up with a group of psychopathic hoodlums.

Titles Comprise:

Dirty Harry: Harry Callahan is a tough, streetwise San Francisco cop whom they call Dirty Harry. In this action classic, you'll see why - and also why Clint Eastwood's reputation as a premier film star and moviemaker is secure. A rooftop sniper (Andy Robinson) calling himself Scorpio has killed twice and holds the city ransom with the threat of killing again. Harry will nail him, one way or the other, no matter what the "system" prescribes. Filming on location, director Don Siegel made the City by the Bay a vital part of Dirty Harry, a practice continued in its four sequels. Thirty years after its arrival the original remains one of the most gripping police thrillers ever made.

Magnum Force: Underworld figures are being murdered all over San Francisco. One by one, criminals who have eluded prosecution are getting the justice they deserve, justice you'd think Detective Harry Callahan might approve of with a tight-lipped smile. But if you think so, you've misjudged Harry - and so have the killers. Written by future directors John Milius and Michael Cimino, this Dirty Harry sequel stars Clint Eastwood in his signature role of Callahan, here facing an unexpected kind of lawbreaker: one who carries a badge. Sharpshooting rookie motorcycle policemen have turned vigilante. Their real enemy is the system. But the system is what Harry is sworn to protect. And he does - with Magnum Force!

The Enforcer: When detective Harry Callahan stops a liquor store hostage standoff in his own no-nonsense way, he gets busted back to personnel. But not for long. When terrorists rob an arms warehouse and go on a blood-soaked extortion spree, San Francisco's leaders quickly seek out Callahan: The Enforcer. Clint Eastwood takes dead aim again in this third of his five Dirty Harry films. Presaging her four-time Emmy-winning stint as half of TV's Cagney and Lacey, Tyne Daly co-stars as Harry's new partner, who has two jobs: nailing the terrorists - and winning hard-boiled Harry's confidence. Stoked with brisk humor and hard-hitting mayhem The Enforcer carves another winning notch in the handle of Harry's .44 magnum.

Sudden Impact: Sensitive to outcries of police brutality, the superiors of San Francisco Detective Harry Callahan have sent him on an out-of-town assignment until things cool down. But wherever Harry goes, things just get hotter. Clint Eastwood hits the mark again in Sudden Impact. Callahan's older, dirtier and the world hasn't gotten better. Which means this fourth Dirty Harry movie (which Eastwood also directs) is explosively exciting, as Callahan tracks a traumatized rape victim (Sondra Locke) coldly gunning down her bygone attackers. Through the five Callahan films, the lawman always struck a powerful chord. But Sudden Impact is particularly potent, fueled by the line that became a national catchphrase: "Go ahead. Make my day."

The Dead Pool: Fame isn't detective Harry Callahan's style. He dislikes being grouped with a rock star, a film critic and a TV host, all slain celebrities in a macabre betting pool called the 'Dead Pool'. Another name just got added and it's his...

plays set has gone back up to £29.99:?

What a surprise, Play.com have a sale on an item and Amazon drop their price the following day.

This company has no initiative whatsoever.

This is still an amazingly hot deal though as the Dirty Harry blu-rays have a very nice picture and are a must have for fans of the movies.

But I would say it would be better to buy from Play as they created the offer and not just copied it.

Voting hot BTW.

No better to pay £18 at Play.com.

Did you not read my post?, it was £18 at Play, and then Amazon copied this price, of the two it would be better to give Play your £18 than Amazon.

Therefore my planet is "credit the company for giving the offer not the one without any initiative and always just copies".

Its a nice planet, maybe you should visit sometime. (and actually read peoples posts before replying )

Jesus what is it with people today, read my post, both of them, Play.com had this for £18. Amazon copied.

If it was £18 at Play.com and £18 at Amazon then I was saying it would be better to buy at Play.

If Play.com have now upped the price to £29.99 or sold out of theirs what does that have to do with my above comment?

My planet must have a different language called 'common-sense' as it seems to be unknown on others.

I expect someone to say what if I had a £18 voucher at Amazon, or Play refuse to ship to Europe or some guff. All I can say to that is I am glad people are considering listening to me over using their vouchers.

You may have over reacted here. :? Either way, it tickles me that Amazon price matched a one day deal, the wrong day.

Yes, a more financially beneficial approach would have been to drop to, say, £24.99 today & take more money from those who intended to buy from Play.com yesterday but didn't & then thought they would today.

PS. Amazon's price yesterday was £29.48.

So who is leading who?

Either way, is the transfer to Blu-ray Disc worth considering on these movies? Does anybody own this set (or any of the single Blu-ray Discs from the set)?

I owned the 5 DVD box set and rented out the Blu-rays (but have bought it yesterday for £18).

The PQ is a considerable jump up.

Especially on Magnum force and Enforcer.

It may not be up to The Searchers, but it is definitely worth £18.

Here is a review of the first movie (which has been stated to have the weekest transfer of the 5).

Yes, we can all read what you said... but both retailers have not been offering the same product on the same day for the same price.

It's a fruitless argument until they do, but thank you for your viewpoint. I too prefer Play.com as Amazon never seems to get my orders either a) sent, or b) correct.

Play.com offers QuidCo cashback too; so if both retailers were offering the same product for the same price on the same day & you did not mind about a date for delivery, then that is another advantage.

The Searchers is regarded as pretty much the perfect transfer of an old movie to hidef.

The Adventures of Robin Hood would be another in that category.

My initial post was not specifically about the Dirty Harry box set, it was because all Amazon have been doing of late is copying other retailers offers a day after but not really offering any of their own.

Tesco's discounts, Asdas, Play's, HMV's and pretty much all other retailers.

Every note worthy offer at any of the above, Amazon copy it the following day, as soon as the other retailer stops their discount, Amazon go back up.

Modern Warfare 2 at Asda for example, as soon as Asda said it would be £32, Amazon copied, The Godfather and Batman Anthology Blu-rays, and many more examples.

Obviously it is good that Amazon are price matching, its really good actually, but my post was more so saying that it would be better to give your service to the company with the initiative to drop the price originally and not the one who just copied.

I did not know Play had put the sets price back up to £29.99 which is what has caused all the subsequent posts.

You said 'it would be better to buy from Play'. This implies that Play's price hasn't gone up. You should have said, 'it would have been better to have bought from Play'. You are basically using the wrong tense, which is what caused someone to question your planet of residence. Fair point, imo.

Also, who cares who dropped the price first? You are acting like Play is a creative genius for dropping the price of an item, and that it should be able to copyright such an original idea.

You're crazy, Tone!

A good deal punk, but it didnt make my day.

I have already said I did not know the play price went back up a few times.

I have also already explained my point numerous times.

The term beating a dead horse is kind of coming into an effect on this issue, there is nothing wrong with price matching, I just suggested people may consider buying from the deal price instigator.

If people find no issue on this then they should really have no need to reply to try and convince me I am wrong as this was never a right or wrong issue in the first place it was just a suggestion.

Yes, think Amazon are just covering themselves.

As to add there is no region 2 for Blu-rays, just A, B, and C.

A is USA and Japan. B Europe and Australia, C is China.

But it is region free.

Here is a website detailing region locked disks, and this also states its region free.
