This isn't new, but certainly may be of interest to some on this site.

Discounts at many retailers are available for members of the Defence Discount scheme. It is an official scheme, as linked to and also below;

gov.uk/gov…mas

defencediscountservice.co.uk/

There is a £4.99 cost for 5 years, however that is easily recouped.

The sister site "Blue Light Card" offers (I believe) the same for NHS personnel

bluelightcard.co.uk/

Hope it helps somebody!

Applied for one thanks
What about us poor bankers?
I got one of these a few months ago and it was money well spent.

Saved about £15.00 with the 20% discount at Yo Sushi on my last visit.

Serious heat from me !
Blue light card covers any police fire or NHS personnel. Not got one myself as get discounts through my force but my mum has used hers a lot and has recouped the money within a month
thanks
Which one is for Civil Servants pls?
Bit misleading as it only covers MoD civil servants and NOT any other civil service-
Had this card for years & use it all the time, its really worthwhile getting if your eligible.
any supermarkets part of this scheme ? Tesco / Asda perhaps ?

If so , is this a discount that's applied at the till or do you buy discounted gift cards or something , anyone know ?

Also is this card available for use by the family of the eligible person (ie parents of a child in the Armed Forces if they live at the same address? )

Thanks in advance for any info guys

Discounted gift cards in this case. Not a huge saving either, but everything helps.

If you show your Military ID card you get the same discount? Heat added but something to be aware of.

For the most part yes. However this card gives you access to online discounts also (typically the employee portal) and veterans don't usually have their military ID.
