Also: defencediscountservice.co.uk/ which is "The only official Ministry of Defence discount service" which is "Operated by Blue Light Card Ltd on behalf of the Ministry Of Defence" :

"The official Ministry of Defence discount service is available for all members of the Defence Community and you can join for free and start saving £100's a year. The Service is available for the follow:
- Serving Armed Forces - Reserve Forces - Spouses/Partners of serving personnel - Forces Veterans - MOD Civil Servants

The offers are usually around the 10% mark and if you want the card to use in the high street it will cost £4.99 for 5 years which isn't really as lot.

Why is this in freebies if its £4.99

Why is this in freebies if its £4.99

Sorry Steve, im still a bit newbie on all this stuff! Didnt realise I'd put it in a freebies section and not sure how i move it?

I didnt put anything in the price bit as the discounts vary and the actual sign up bit is free.

Should I put the price as £4.99 which is the cost of the card?

You can have a free membership that you can use online .... But for instore discounts you need the card .... If you choose to pay for it

It also includes anyone who works for the NHS might be worth popping that in xx

Membership is free - it's only £4.99 if you want a card.

Is the online site like a cashback site ?

Nope, it just gives you a discount code which you enter at the checkout when buying online and you get the discount off the total price there and then!

I had read the post thanks, i mentioned it because it started out in the deals section, and when i went back to go through the link, i couldn't find it, as it had been moved to freebies. I think most will pay the £4.99 as it is such a good deal.

Oh ok, could someone give me a example of one of the high street deals?

Is there anyway that someone that is not on the official eligibility list can apply to join?

dont think so. it's specifically created for emergency services, military and volunteers. You can call them if you think you could be eligible in your job, but if you dont do anything related to that, i doubt they'd let you have it

does anyone know if a teacher can grt this card?

Are the offers the same as the DDS card ?

Someone asked about cashback earlier - cashback is detailed on the DDS site so yes, I believe it to be available from some companies through DDS although I have no experience of this - see the terms and conditions where it mentions cashback at defencediscountservice.co.uk/ind…gal . The Blue Light website also has a cashback section in its terms and conditions - see bluelightcard.co.uk/ind…gal .

There is a DDS corporate registration page at defencediscountservice.co.uk/ind…ate and on here you will see that the registering party has the option of also supporting the Emergency Services and NHS by accepting the Blue Light Card as well as the Defence Privilege Card so that the list of offers can be different although a corporate registering with Blue Light gets the option of also making the offer available to the official Ministry of Defence discount card.

Having said that, my experience is that the list of companies making offers does differ between the two websites.

Hope this makes sense and helps...

Where a company appears on both sites, the discounts can differ - an example I looked at today offers 15% on one site and 10% on the other.

Cool! Thanks for clarifying for us :-)

I have just applied. Seems a bit of a shame though that most of the supermarkets have cash back on gift cards only (3-6% generally. Beaten by buying on HUKD :p) . Would have - in my opinion - been a lot nicer to have a discount on any purchase in store. Can see it's more profitable the way they have done it though.

Tried signing up to Vauxhall Partners - made an account there & it re-directs me to the Vauxhall Masterfit scheme which is open to anyone.
TeamSport Go Karting says "Not valid at some points during the year" which is a little vague!
