I think they're price matching dronesdirect.

Literally pulled the trigger on this last night. They have a 36-month interest-free option through PayPal which was just too tempting.

PayPal with drones direct yeah? I may take them up on that

This is a good price, but keep in mind that this controller can’t be… ahem… adjusted… like the DJI RC-N1 controller, switching it into FCC mode and significantly increasing range and stability of data streams.

Isn’t range vlos so not important

Been a while since I’ve flown, anyone know if you still need a qualification to fly commercially or is insurance the only thing required now?
    Avatar
You need operator I'd with caa £10 per year. No 3rd party insurance unless you are using commercially.

Looking at purchasing this, can anyone tell me the type of SD card I would need please?
    I have a few spare...
  6. Avatar
Does anyone know if there is a sim that I can run on ipad/android/windows that I can use the actual DJI controller with? Only one I could find was for FPV drones.

I have the first Mavic Pro but haven’t used it that much recently cause a bit too big and noisy unless you go in full nature area. Did great footage but very tempted now by this new model seems much easier to travel with etc…
Will it be much less noisy than my old mavic pro?
    Avatar
The mini's are generally much quieter, lighter and more portable (perfect for holidays). I currently have the mini 2 and can't hear anything above a certain height so it's quite stealthy. I've also watched you tube videos saying the mini 3 pro is even quieter than the mini 2 so another reason to upgrade

Off topic but I'm also interested in a FPV drone (DJI FPV or Avata) for the sheer fun of it (noisy though!), it's a shame you can't use goggles on the 3 Pro (unless there is a hack for this?) The DJI FPV I think goes 90mph, insane..

Ultimate drone imho = quiet, speedy, sub 250g, good battery, good range, collision sensors all round, propellor guards?, great video/photo, quickshots etc, and FPV - I've yet to come across a DJI that does all of this unfortunately (unless someone knows better?) it's quite a tall order!

Anyone having issues with obstacle avoidance. Mine is not working, have updated the firmware.
    Avatar
It won't avoid cables and twigs.

It won't avoid anything in Sport mode.

It will avoid obvious objects to the front and rear.
  9. Avatar
I have this drone. I added it to my arsenal as soon as it came out as the law regarding drones that weight 250g or more meant I couldn't fly in the city, and I really wanted to fly in the city.

    The result...speaks for itself.
    Avatar
Are you not using a neutral density filter on your lens? Great footage by the way!
  10. Avatar
DJ AUDITS got one of those I believe. Great tool to confront people who are making up their own laws.

Most of which aren’t an issue to the general public, just for those antagonistic people who have nothing better to do than stir up trouble for the sake of a few clicks and a few quid.

Agree it’s a good tool though (edited)

Been a good 5yrs now that I've wanted a dji drone. No idea where I'm gonna take it or use it. What I'm gonna do with the footage. I just want one. I like gizmos. Just want one

Regulations say we must abide by the Byelaws of the area flying. Livibg in East London I've asked every park authority if I may fly a 249g drone. They all said no.

However Luton council have allowed some parks where drones can fly. But be wary of 5km Luton airport rule.

Repesct peoples privacy and thry can't stop you if you take off and land from public footpaths/land.

Just be reasonable and if anyone has an issue then accept and move on.

Most the time I actually get people who want to see the photos etc.

There’s a better deal on box

That’s for the mini 3 not the mini 3 pro

According to CamelCamelCamel, this is the lowest price it has been on Amazon.

Is the Pro controller worth the extra ~£140?
I’m happy enough with using my iPhone on my Mini 2 controller.
    Avatar
If you’re thinking of keeping your mini 2 along with this, you may as well get the pro controller and have both. Problem with iphones is that they dim the screen when the phone gets hot and you can’t override that.
  16. Avatar
    Thanks @Matholwch.
I definitely think I'll go for the cover - I would probably never fly it for the fear of it flying away.
  17. Avatar
Slightly confused between the different options.

You can buy the drone with the video screen controller. But you can't use the greater distance hack.

Or you can buy the drone by itself.

Or you can buy the drone with the non -sceeen controller. Which can go a significantly further distance.

Can you fly the drone just with a phone and controls on the phone screen or do you need the non-screen controller? Are they selling the drone solo just in case you already have the controller?
    Avatar
You need a controller to fly it

Paid 825 couple days ago, will check if they can refund/credit the difference
    Avatar
worth a try ... but in my experience, no (not a drone but it was a mobile phone). The live chat advisor "advised" me to buy another one with the lower price then return the one with a higher price. Good luck.

Very.co.uk had the Pro 3 with DJI RC until recently but only have the N1 now (£709). With the (ahem) 20% discount is it worth waiting for the one with smart controller to come back into stock?
    Avatar
I prefer the older controller to the one with the screen but I’m in the minority here. You have better customisation through the iPhone app than the controller, plus I found the signal and range to be much better.

It takes less than 10 seconds to attach the phone so the statement about ease of use / less faff doesn’t ring true for me

Has anyone had to use the DJI Care Refresh program? It looks like it might be a worth-while investment. Looks like it can only be on "Brand new and un-activated aircraft" OR "Aircraft activated within the last 48 hours".
    Avatar
Well worth it for the 'fly-away' cover, this expensive, might as well have a level of insurance. And go for the 2yr option, as its cheaper than buying one each year. Basically its an insurance for loss of the drone, you can make a limited number of claims, and still need to pay an excess on a claim, but beats having to buy a brand new replacement.

Just about to post this deal and HUKD had it already. Been on the lookout for this very package and seen Carmarthen cameras wasn't quite cheap enough at £799. Didn't think twice when i seen this. I used to fly RC planes about 12 years ago so looking forward to getting back flying with the new restrictions. Rushed the shipping of course, as long as the demand here hasn't made them OOS and they go an refund my order. Will let you all know later today.

Not sure if i should also order the fly more combo for longer flight time at a tenner off. Are they regularly on offer does anyone know? (edited)

Quick question for those that have bought DJI Care Refresh. I'm intending to buy the 2-year plan. I've seen some retailers advertising it, but is this just a "virtual" thing that I can buy direct from DJI when I setup my drone/account, or do I need to purchase something physically in advance - presumably it's just a code?
    Avatar
You can buy it whenever you want, it's just a little harder after the window has closed when you first turn the drone on as you have to send DJI a video of the drone working.

To be honest I just don't bother with it. The one time I needed to get my FPV drone repaired because I snapped a leg off, the whole process took about a week and cost £70.
  27. Avatar
Bought this last night, Amazon offered interest free for 12 months with through themselves. Couldn't resist.
  28. Avatar
The price has just gone back up on Drones Direct, so I imagine this price will increase soon!
  29. Avatar
If only the fly more option had the 12 months interest free payment, I would snap it right away!

Thanks for posting. Been thinking about this for a while, and the price has swayed me finally!
