For this money if your looking a propper drone you can build one for under …For this money if your looking a propper drone you can build one for under £100 or get a serious pro racer for about £150. Depends if you want DJI consumer safe happy unbox and fly products. What happens when you crash? Send off for repairs?? As early doors flying usually means chewing the deck often..

This is a pre built drone that is aimed at photography,so why are you comparing it to a racing drone that you have to make yourself ?

Should I post a link to an easy jet flight and tell you that for £20 it will fly far higher and faster than your racing drone for £100
Sometimes people comment on threads because they have extensive knowledge of a product and in this case a product you can build. They comment negatively initially to get the attention of anyone who cares to reply. That’s the real reason they comment because they want people to know that they know how to build, fix and repair. They state they hate the big companies but deep down they don’t. It’s just a way for them to have a voice and get the attention of others. It’s good that they gain the knowledge but getting people’s attention sadly initiates a negative comment. I think they forget that innovation breeds innovation. Without the knowledge of others they almost certainly wouldn’t have any knowledge to build on if any at all.

Well its not easy to build. For the standard working person they might not have weekends and evenings to tinker and calibrate the Escs etc. because I did it as a Project for my E&E Eng Degree and wouldnt have patience to do it whilst at work. Sometimes getting off-the-shelf is cheaper and/or more efficient.

All changed over the last couple of years with betaflight and modern boards, almost plug n play now. Yes takes time to learn but when you do you view DJI as expensive toys from then on.
Genuine question.
Can you build one yourself with return to home and headless mode for less than £100.

Depends on the flight controller if you have a magnetometer and gps on-board it's possible. Prob looking for about extra 30 quid for decent gps. Never done this however.

Cheers, had a quick look at the vid you posted just after I posted my question. Probably a bit to tech for me anyway.

Just on this, wanted a drone for a long time and opted to build rather than buy DJI. Friends had DJI however once you understand the build process you can within reason build what you like. I've used the same principle to build racers and freestyle and have gopro on freestyle for images. Battery life depends on many factors but I get good flight times. As I prefer to fly it than it fly. Horses for courses and agreed the DJI stuff is slick, however they are not the only fruit. Good find by op however.

Probably not. Guessing this is the standard package which only comes with the drone. Not a great drone without a remote controller but a beast with it.

Show me a build that will give me equal or better photography and range than a DJI product at this cost.

I own both a spark and Mavic for my own pleasure of recording videos. I have yet to see any drone that can make decent videos with the right range and on a gimbal.

Show me the parts, I have all the time in the world to build it

Never done it, but camera gimbles are available also head trackers. Gopro style cameras provide 4k options and more. I don't dispute they give a good camera platform out of the box.
I have a mavic air
Wonder how CEX test these before taking them in for trade in?

The test procedure is called "14 day free return"
This is probably one of the cheapest ways of getting a Spark with guarantee but is not as good a deal as some recent ones. Not having a time machine, those deals are gone but if they've been there in the past, if you are not in a rush for one, maybe they will appear again.

I like the comments about building your own drone - I may give that a go but the Spark is a very good, out of the box experience. I've now got several drones and if I was forced to have only one, it would be the Spark.

I really fancy building my own as I've enjoyed crashing and rebuilding my other drones.

Just to clarify - I've enjoyed getting them working again after they've crashed. The crashes themselves have never been nice.
Is this easy enough to fly guys? I’m looking for a drone for a father and son to use.

It's probably easier to fly than cheaper models but I would suggest getting the optional remote control as for a beginner, it gives much more control.

You just proved how irrelevant your initial message was. Yes you can make an FPV but firstly you have to go through a learning process, wait for parts to arrive, after spending on a GoPro camera too you will have a half baked Frankenstein of a drone.

I have dabbled with FVP myself and I personally don't enjoy it. These DJI drones are a little overpriced but at the same time, for many people in the pro photo industry they can reap much greater returns.

Someone like myself, I just enjoy being able to see visuals I would never have done whilst I am away on travels.

They are worth every penny in my opinion.

Yet the software can be a little buggy, yes they have their problems but they are by far the most refined all in one drone packages to date.

I also liked the 4K Xiaomi which can be had for less than 400.

But comparing fpv drones to this is nonsensical

There is a bit of a learning curve for sure.

Your quite limited to how much you can actually use it due to the weather but with the summer coming up you will have lots of fun.

I personally would recommend the Mavic air over this.

That extra battery juice helps big time

My first comment was that these are flying iPhones! Which I'm sure you would agree you have just backed up completely. As highlighted these are a marmite product. I agree as a consumer product it has a place and your points are totally valid. On the other side however a disagree that you end up with a Frankenstein drone. Once you understand the build process it can be adapted to suit many needs not just racing and as these DJI are quite frankly rediculous price by comparison. When I was first wanting to get into the hobby DJI was the goal as like the iphone they are the cunsumer brand, but what I really wanted was the flight experience and building my own gave me both the experience and the dditional understanding of the rapidly expanding technical base these products offer. If you want to open a box, wave your hand and have your drone follow and photo you these are fabulous. If however you want to have something more than that with a detailed understanding of what you have how it's built and fly and you can tune to your needs you have way more options.

No your completely wrong. I am not a brand cult follower type. I like to tinker too and I enjoy getting the old soldering iron out on projects.

You made the statement that an FPV drone can be had for much less.

You have stated you can buy a GoPro camera and shove it on an FPV build but the cost now is not much less, so you are making in accurate statements.

I don't agree with you about pricing. They are ridiculous for you to waste your money if you can't afford it. I saved up for 6 months before I finally invested in it, I run a few online business too but still didn't feel comfortable splurging so much.

But like anything in life, the value of an item changes per person and how they are used.

I know a videographer who's a good friend making thousands per project focussed solely on aerial footage. He even gets commission work with engineers to get footage of the surrounding area they have plans on.

You say it's a ridiculous price but he will tell you otherwise.

I didn't want to spend 3 4 months messing up control boards and waiting for parts. The cameras on the DJI are very nice, they have solid gimbals on the basic model like the spark and do an amazing job.

They don't lack functionality. They are not crippled software. They are easy to repair and get parts.

You really are comparing apples and oranges.

This is nothing like an apple product

Sorry but your wrong.

Show me 1 build including parts that will cost less than a DJI spark with equal or better features?

Instead of just making comments that have no basis.

GoPro cameras already set you back 200£

Show me and I will build it but all the features need to be, collision avoidance, equal or better flight distance, battery, gimbal, you said you can build a better one cheaper.

I will if you show the list of parts or even a video of one
