Carrying unrestrained dogs in cars is really not something to be encouraged. In the unfortunate event of an accident, not only will the poor animal be injured or killed, anyone in the front seat will probably too.

"At 30mph, for example, a 50lb border collie would be thrown forward with the force equivalent to nine 12 stone men - enough to kill the average driver or passenger."

Pets, like humans should be properly restrained to prevent injury to themselves and others.

Thanks for the pointer to the car seat protector cover esims84

Thanks for the important dog harnessing advice too Premier!

i always use a seat beat harness on my dog.

Ooh, I haven't seen these car seat belts for dogs before, only the traditional type of crates or bars.

Looks good, but check they comply with the appropriate safety standards
(I'm a bit worried that it only seems to be attached by one strap to the conventional car seat belt which wouldn't really protect either the dog or other passengers in the event of an accident - although it would make finding them afterwards easy)

Furthermore, fitting of the above seat cover appears to obsure access to the existing seat belts / anchorage points.

We have a similar one for our dog, very handy when the boot is otherwise taken up and no room for a crate. If you loop the harness through a seat belt its worth making sure that the seat belt is fixed otherwise they can pull gently, the seat belt loop will lengthen and you find them sticking their nose in the front of the car.

thats the type i use
Keep your dog and other passengers safe in the car with this purpose built car harness. The harness if fully adjustable and comfortable allowing your dog to sit, lie and turn on the seat.
