Love these machines, really handy and really like the espresso range (3 or 4 different types). Pods are a little on the expensive side I suppose, you get 48 pods for around £9-10 on amazon subscribe and save.

Tassimo machines are much better with their automated drink measures. Unless you like faffing about with measuring jugs avoid this model.

I am thinking of buying one of these machines. Using the printer analogy, how cheap/expensive are the cartridges for this machine, anyone?

This is the auto model.... there is a roller with a number of lights to control the amount of water for each pod.

I agree, The Tassimo when using Carte Noire coffee is superior in taste to Nescafe. The capuccino's are a lot better and have less calories and sugar at 45cals per cup. Wife uses Dolce Gusto at home for her Latte's, but I prefer the automated bar code system on the Tassimo, it also notify's you when it needs descaling/cleaning and has a water level sensor which the Dolce Gusto does not.
Another pet hate on the Dolce Gusto is that the used pods are left full of water and if you leave them in the empty pod holder they soon start to stink, the Tassimo ones fully flow water through so no water is left in the pods.

That's reassuring to hear having just ordered a Bosch Tassimo T65! Thanks

bought one of these a few weeks ago from curry's for £59.99 and its worth every penny.....also had the tassimo in the past which was not as good as the water didn't heat up much,no such problem with this machine.... the manual funtion is better than the automatic ones as you can decide your own preferences....heat added

I have bought many coffee machines and I can honestly say this is the best machine I have bought and recommended to all the family

the dolce gusto doesnt need to mess around telling you when to descale because it doesnt clog up. ive had mine 4 years and only ever descales it twice and I live in a hard water area.

the lights only become a nuisance from what I hear as they break so easily when the lights start to show!

if you look into the actual build of the machine you will see that dolce gusto are far superior as a machine. look up bar pressure and you will see how rubbish tassimo is.

the reason the water doesnt all drain out is down to the make up of the pod. it is a smart pod if you open it up theyre quite interesting. it has a filter in the bottom to stop the water bursting out as it would with the strength of pressure it pushes through the coffee unlike tassimo which just dribbles luke warm water through.

not to forget the discs you waste when the machine doesnt read the barcode on tassimo...

honestly dont waste your money on a tassimo if youre after a decent coffee machine, youll only regret it and end up with a dolce gusto later on like lots of people!

So which Tassimo model do you recommend?

As I have both a Dolce Gusto and a Tassimo, I can actually truthfully comment on both machines.

Flaws with the Dolce Gusto, difficult to get exact balance amount with milk/coffee as it is not an automated system.
The water tank on ours has a tendency to leak at the base unless seated correctly. Due to issues and leaking, we now have to refill it with a jug and not take it off.
It is annoying when you go to make a drink and then realize because the machine is tucked away under a cabinet the water tank is empty and you have to refill it before you can finish making your coffee. A water level warning light would be so handy!
Another gripe is with Nescafe coffee, I'm not a fan of any Nescafe but unfortunately with this machine your stuck with this brand!

Benefits of the Tassimo :
Coffee tastes better. As in Carte Noire, Kenco, Costas, Etc
Variety of Hot Chocolates : Cadburys, Milka, Suchard.
Variety of teas : Mint, English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Etc.
Automated delivery of drink.

If you like Nescafe, stick with their instant coffee, it's as good as what the Dolce Gusto produces.
As for Tassimo, you can get a Costa Coffee almost on par with the coffee shop.

As for machines, they all have similar features so the T40/T43/Joy Machine are all viable options. I have a T40 myself.
