Staying at the Riu Merengue, Bahia Maimon
Key Features
Right by the beach
2 lagoon pools
3 floodlit tennis courts
Free Wi-Fi in lobby
This beachfront hotel comes with a mix of restaurants and a pair of huge pools.
ClubHotel Riu Merengue has gotten the tropical setting down to a fine art – it’s backed by hills and fronted by a thick ribbon of sand. What’s more, the grounds are filled with palm-dotted gardens.

Set back from the beach is a massive swimming pool criss-crossed by a bridge and bordered by thatched parasols. Keep walking and you’ll come to two more huge pools, plus a separate one for children.

As for dining, the two main restaurants have buffet set-ups. Expect American-style spreads in the mornings, with eggs and omelettes cooked any way you want. And for lunch and dinner, there’s a pan-global offering. You can go down the à la carte route, too, with Italian cuisine and grilled favourites.

Caribbean Street is well worth a look, too. This little road is shared with the neighbouring hotel Riu Bachata, and it’s lined with rainbow-coloured shops selling everything from chunky jewellery to sun cream.

• On a picturesque part of the north coast alongside the Bay of Maimon
• 9km from Puerto Plata

One thing is for sure.......... you'll need a case to pack your Diocalm alone........ guaranteed two bob bits...

You have no idea how much I want to sack off work for 2 weeks and jet off to the sun.

it's a really nice place n hotels, even better to upgrade flights

Does this mean you land back home missing some of Christmas day ?

Great price

Stayed here 2 years ago and it was excellent only downside when the hotel I open to local folks during the weekends, good luck then queuing for ages for food, cant get near the pool and my particular favourite the fact that some of them let their children toilet in plastic cups rather than take them to the facilities.
Thank god for the use of the mambo hotel but not sure if that's still allowed.

I have stayed here twice but I have heard
of the sickness that has resulted here.
Apparently, at weekends they let the locals
in and it is a waste of time for those two days.
Funny, the offers for the Dominican are so
often for the Riu Merengue, I wonder why.

Stayed at the Riu Bachata, which is the sister hotel further up the beach. They share facilities....no problems when we went in October this year. No locals there or at the Merengue ....beach is Great, staff are so friendly but wary of the massive increase in Chikungunya virus, take lots of mossie spray.

If you go you MUST go on the Paradise Island trip and go snorkeling at the Tropical reef...AMAZING!

At this price it's a steal!

At least you had a clean toilet then if you needed to use it...

went in may, the locals ruined it at the weekend, just look at look at Trip Advisor Reviews.
If you are used to cheap holidays back packing hostels etc you will probably like it.
If you want a 4/5 star holiday pay the extra and get a decent hotel

makes me wonder who could get 2 weeks off work with 1 weeks notice especially this close to christmas. yeah its a good deal but bit unrealistic

Would think quite few people can we dont all work 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.
I can often get 14 days off just booking 4 or 5 days if rest days work out right
May require swap the odd shift but quite possible short notice and still have plenty off weeks left as well
