Donate your unused Nectar Points to the Philippines Typhoon Appeal

I realise this probably shouldn't be in 'deals' but I thought it would get a few extra people looking at it if I posted it as one. I just checked my Nectar point balance for the first time in ages and noticed that I have £10 worth of points to spend. Bonus! I was just about to look for something meaningless to spend a tenner on when I noticed that you can donate them to the Philippines Typhoon Appeal. And Oxfam's supporters will match the first £20,000 worth of donations. Times are tight at the moment and there may be some of us who can't afford to give anything from our wallet to the appeal but what about those unused nectar points???

great idea, well done OP

What an absolutely fantastic idea, instead of spending it on some crap you don't need, give it to something worthwhile, well done OP heat added.

Well done Nectar for doing this, just donated.

That's another £10 donated - Good Idea OP

Brilliant... Well done OP...

Great idea.

Too sleepy to find my Nectar login details right now, but will do this first time in the morning! Great post!

very considerate post

Highly commendable, I salute you.

Well done Nectar, excellent idea

Excellent idea. Had points lying for ages and couldn't think what to get with them...problem now solved

Hot. Well done OP.

Brilliant idea! I'll be doing this in the morning and have shared to Facebook

Thank you for your generosity. This is a big help to our countrymen. May your tribe increase.

Fantastic idea, I have no idea how many I have and will never use them so giving them to a just cause is an excellent idea.

Just look to Haiti to see where the money/value will actually go.....Nice sentiment but you're just lining some officials pocket.

Well done op excellent idea, good to see a post like this

Great idea! :-)

Mr No

I'm still trying to decide what to do with all of the Green Shield … I'm still trying to decide what to do with all of the Green Shield stamps/millions of pounds in aid that the Philippines donated to us.

Yeah from that time we had the typhoon that left thousands dead and millions homeless or otherwise affected.....oh wait.

GROW UP.

You might be right... but I'd rather take my chances sending the unexpected tenner to those who really need it, than buy another unappreciated toy for my kids to demolish!!! Let's hope it does some good

This is a good idea but your right about Haiti.

The lovely UN also brought Cholera with them that killed hundreds and covered it all up.

have some heat for this and well done.

I appreciate your morals here, And you would feel good knowing your donating here.

But come on guys, You are essentially donating for Sainsburys here.......Are Sainsburys gonna go on record and state 'FLORALIQUE' from HUKD generously gave £10 worth of nectar points to the people of the Philippines?

We all know there not.....Every penny or nectar point you donate via sainsburys is going to put them on the map...as intended!

I beg you all to please if you can donate via This Website where you know your money will help those people without this corporate crap.

The OP has pointed out that if you're unable to donate from your pocket this is a great idea....so are you saying that red cross now take nectar points??? NO of course not that would be rather silly wouldn't it?

I actually don't give a flying s**t if this donation goes on paper as coming from Sainsbury or whether my name is mentioned at all - I am skint like many others and am really please to see that I can donate in this way.

Time for you to grow up and stop posting pointless unhelpful political c**p on helpful posts such as this one I think!

just donated 2000 points, well worth the spend.thanks op.

This is the best deal I have ever come across which illustrate that humanity still prevails. Thanks OP for your wonderful thoughts.

You know most people donate not for credit or recognition but they actually want to help. I'm happy to spend my nectar points on trying to help others knowing that it might at least make a little bit of difference rather than not doing anything at all.

Why would Sainsburys receive credit for donations? Sainsburys do not own Nectar they are just a trading partner along with quite a few other retailers including ebay etc. What does it matter anyway who gets credit? Giving to charity shouldn't be about receiving recognition.

even tho i feel sad for them all (knowing that others will help them out) we have people (mainly kids) in the uk who dont eat...

i really want to go on but i really am not going to.

Maybe if they did this for kids in the uk all the time as well as this then maybe i would.

O look i went on lol

As you seem so educated at this time of night, Although I must point out the word is am really pleased as opposed to

am really please

.

Im not sure I fully understand why you seemed to include politics to this conversation? Your financial situation is highly irrelevent here, Although I would bet you either, Drink at home, smoke or play the lottery?

My point here was not political it was aimed towards the fact that you seem so happy to pledge you hard earned Nectar points (Going back to Sainsburys, Im not sure thats the cheapest supermarket around so I question how 'skint' you actually are).

But my point is instead of drinking at home tonight or tomorrow night, smoking your 20 cigs or playing the lottery tomorrow night, try not to propel Sainsbury's image by donating with a proper lead to the disaster.

I do however appreciate your response to my comment.

I think you're missing the point, Ok Nectar may be getting a bit of advertising here, but get over it! The Oxfam typhoon appeal has just recieved a £10 donation and that's all that matters. Whether the cheque is signed by Sainsbury's or myself does it really matter?

And as for this comment...
"Are Sainsburys gonna go on record and state 'FLORALIQUE' from HUKD generously gave £10 worth of nectar points to the people of the Philippines?"
...Giving to charity isn't about blowing your own trumpet! As long as the money gets to the victims it doesn't matter who gets the praise.

I'm not pretending that these giant companies don't use unfortunate situations for a bit of shameless advertising, but ultimately by donating through this channel it's helping out those in need. And at the moment, donating through this channel is all I can manage financially, as I'm sure is the case for many others.

Thanks for your feedback but I stand by my post.

Oh lord......for every £5 in Nectar points you use to donate for example, Is £5 worth of stock you are not taking from there store, thus saving them £5, Could Sainsburys not do the decent thing if this cause is so great to them and announce on the site that they have donated £x Million instead of publicly asking for your Nectar points?

The Philippines are an industrialised nation, you can't compare them to Haiti that's absurd.
