Is this the full doom or just a demo show piece

Original Poster

It is neither- it is a new game built from the ground up for VR. I think it uses some of the same locations/enemies as last years Doom but it is a new game. Given the price it will no doubt be short however I think calling it a 'demo show piece' might be a little harsh. I guess we will see when the reviews arrive.

I can probably last 15 minutes before getting motion sickness. Is it worth paying £12 for 15 minutes game play? Hot price

Ordered, Thanks OP

A bit off-topic, but does anyone know if the £2 prime discount still applies if your prime account isn't active at the time the item ships, or do you get charged the full amount? I'm about to cancel my prime, but have just ordered this and have a couple of other December pre-orders - I'm curious to know if I'll lose the £2 discount on them all.

I currently have a full prime membership but have previously ordered items during prime trials which were released outside of said trials and as far as I am aware so long as you are a prime member when you place the order, the discount will still apply.

I can confirm that the prime discount does stick to your orders. Im always using free trials with numerous emails and ive never had the discount taken off me after my prime has ended. Though I do tend to make sure to pick standard delivery and not expided just so I know delivery will be free

Cancelled Tesco order and ordered from Amazon, hey £2 is £2 saved! HEAT

I'm sure it will be more than 15 mins of gameplay lol maybe 3-4 hours?

I'm expecting something in the 90 mins - 3 hours ballpark. Worth it at this price in my opinion, and it can always be sold on as well to get some of it back.

the superior PC version being on the vive? as in the one with the more visible pixels, weighty 15KG headset and eye squeeze, while paying 3x more for the privilege, saving a whole £2 on the game

I ordered this at £14 before the pre-order discount was added. It still shows as having charged £14 do I need to cancel and reorder?

Amazon says you only get the £2 discount if you have Prime when it ships.

"More visible pixels" is a strange way to write "higher resolution".

I actually use my PSVR more than my Rift as my gaming PC has been relegated to a tiny corner of a tiny room, but I wouldn't say it's better. The lower resolution on the PSVR is an issue. Definitely the most comfortable of the headsets, though, I'll give you that.

Is this the full doom game? Does anyone know?

Not happening on PS4

I wouldn't count on that. Bethesda/HTC have already made it clear it's not exclusive. The obvious market is PSVR so I'd be stunned if it doesn't come to that next year, just as I think the vive will get Skyrim VR.

Seeing as psvr accounts for over 50% of all vr sales would be a idiot move not to release on ps4

Nonsense. Not saying you wouldnt have to make significant cut backs to get it to run properly, and it would not look as good as a pc version, but with enough tinkering they will have it running fine. They have the experience of doing skyrim vr now and there are a lot of similarities with the engine.

Thanks OP. Ordered, always looking to prolong the life of my PSVR.

Nonsense? Hmmm. Why else have they binned off a guaranteed money maker. If they could do it they would, simple as. Or if they could it would look so crappy they have decided it's not worth tainting the brand. Don't forget there's a 4 year gap between the games releases so fallout is guaranteed to be more power hungry, the original PS4 version ran pretty crappy as it was if you remember with the amount of freezing and crashing it did. Maybe they just think it would be too time consuming to get it to work properly with the limited umph the PS4 has??

Why have they 'binned it off'? Because it is currently unnanounced? The reason for separating the releases is, I would have thought, obvious. People aren't going to play skyrim and fallout in vr at the same time, so you give the psvr market skyrim first, and vive fallout first, the swap them over later.

The Vive userbase is very small compared to PSVR. Despite what many think, it is very expensive and time consuming to convert a skyrim or fallout sized game into VR. It would make little fiscal sense to have fallout be exclusive to vive and, in fact, bethesda have confirmed that it is not exclusive.

I dont dispute the technical challenges associated with a psvr version, that is clear. Were not talking about Horizon or Uncharted 4 here though, and it will certainly be doable.

I could be wrong of course, but that would mean Bethesda have converted F4 to VR solely for the niche and struggling vive market, which I dont think is realistic.

3k for the superior machine to run it

Doubt that. My laptop would run that game easily and that was £860. There are laptops as cheap as £600 that would play this well.

The best VR (pc VR) costs more but I think it's worth the extra bit of money over what you would pay for a console. You get that money back over time through being able to get games on pc for less anyway.

With oculus rift going as low as £350 recently, there are really good options out there for console gamers to go that extra mile and taste PC gaming for the first time.

Your laptop can play this well in VR?

Having owned a vive in the past I honestly can't get my head around people being able to deal with a fast moving FPS in VR. I could barely deal with moving around the Elite Dangerous galaxy map let alone Doom. Insane.

From what I have read, this game uses teleportation controls and is slower than the normal game. I understand why they do it, but I'm not really a fan of teleportation and segmented rotation. I guess, I ll have to wait till they've figured it out.
