That one is offline. Its fine if you notice the power going down not so good if you don't realise.

The ebuyer one is online. When the power goes off it switches to the battery and sends a signal to your pc to start, politely, shutting down.

Sorry your wrong there eek.

With a Offline UPS there's a 4 - 10 ms delay in switching power from mains to battery. There's not much which will see the effect of a 10ms (max) power drop.

With a Online UPS the power goes into the battery and everything is powered from the battery. This has the advantage of providing a cleaner supply but at higher expense.

The main problem with the aria unit is that there's no signally software so if the power drops in the middle of the night and you leave your PC on it'll not shutdown automatically. There's also no surge protection on the Aria unit.

Anyone know if this works on Server 2003? It mentions Windows 98 / 2000 / ME / XP / Vista.

Thanks.

Hmm I wonder how much a car battery + inverter + charger would cost - that would give 5000VA or something
