Good one... none of the ones you quote include USB ports.

Thanks for your input anyway.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to sell electrical mains stuff that's not CE marked in this country... until Brexit arrives obviously!

Pretty sure it's illegal to sell Fake Head and Shoulders shampoo containing 'sex-change chemical' but didn't seem to stop this lot doing that :-)

Seriously?! When did that happen?!?!

If so... oO

But in all seriousness, i've used loads of HB's electrical kit in the last house I renovated and none even broke let alone set the house on fire. Yet.

Just google it. Personally I avoid these stack them high places wherever I can. I prefer to buy on quality rather then price, that way I get the best value most the time.

I still can't see what all the fuss is about with these. Whats so bad about a plug in USB power supply ?

Lol. I had wondered why this was attracting so much heat. Respect. And heat added.

Tacky white plastic ones tho... not really the same.

I know someone who's socket went bang a few years ago.

Problem was the isolation between mains and ELV side was not up to UK or any other standard.
Part of the 5v DC circuit came into contact with 230vAC and became a smouldering mess, nothing connected an at time.

Also seen some units fail an earth bond test as metal surface coating on inside not prepared correctly. The danger of this is the outer casing becomes live and will not trip an RCD or breaker until it has a path to ground, your hand.

CE markings are not enough to go by either as its a self awarded standard.

Look for certification to
BS5733 and IEC 61558-2-16.

Im not saying this unit is unsafe, just adding some extra info so people are aware.

Seconded. Something people always need to be aware of when buying and/or installing stuff they don't really understand...

I've got 1 of these and it gives of an faint high pitched squeal

The kids have usually nicked it and quite often it's been left at their friends house after a sleepover.

Coil whine.
Its the transformer coil vibrating at a high frequency the human ear can hear.
Usually this is supressed but not so much on cheaper models.

Nothing to worry about though, just annoying.
