When they start making them so you can turn off the USB part, it might be something worth thinking about! Otherwise, they draw power (granted not a lot) the whole time. So you're paying for them just to sit there not doing anything.

From the Q&A:

"Hi, thank you for your product enquiry.
The USB transformer circuit is constantly powered, but when there is no device connected to draw power through it the circuit consumes less than 75mW on a 230V 50Hz supply (or a chargeable consumption of less than 0.000075 kW/h)."

in the same way that a mains doorbell is, the transformer is powered constantly,
only uses anything worth talking about when pressed. (virtually nothing)

Only 75 mW whats the point in having switch

ive two of these they are good only same as when you leave a phone charger in all night and day

I had have the 2 usb 3.1amp version made by BG. Can't use phone while charging because the USB ports aren't grounded. It's caused by static build up. Socket is fine and earthed. I don't like it and am no longer a fan of these sockets. Rather use something better

If you look at standard 3 pin USB plugs the earth pin is usually plastic so it's the same for them

LOOKS REALLY UGLY

These things will have been tested to destruction (literally) worry not.
They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, and nothing more than with electricity... these things draw an imperceptible amount of current when not in use, I'd be surprised if its 1p a year in cost...
Why worry about these things, youre happy enough to leave the tv, sky box, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster ect ect ect plugged in 24/7 so stop whittling !

Forgive my little knowledge in electronics. Can these bit fitted in place of an ordinary 2 socket wall?

About 10p over a year. Negligible for the convenience

For anyone still concerned about their 0.000075kw/h being wasted; its NOT. It goes towards warming you home on a cold day like today.

b&q do this one as well for £16,
this has 2.1amp shared in each pair of USB,
4.2 amp total,
the ones with 2 sockets have 2.1amp total

Would rather pay the extra for the MK branded socket

for local isolation in event of a fault and for test purposes.

In the rare case of fault switch would prob only isolate live
You would be fool to mess about with psu with isolating socket at consumer unit
As I said what is the point of a switch dont play with some thing you dont understand

3 year old report on early Chinese (?) junk...
as I said earlier, a little knowledge ;-)

Ended up buying the 2 usb switched twin version... and am quite impressed, voltage is 5.06v and hardly fluctuated on a 2A load.. way better than most chargers ive had.
Recommended !
