Looking for some advise/opinion on this smart home thermostat set.

Looks a good price for an entry into all this smart heating. You can multi zone your house with the smart thermostatic radiator valves and add up to 9 more to the included kit. seems to have more functionality than hive which is a glorified normal thermostat that you just control from your phone.

Any opinion or advise welcome and hope that this post is of use to anybody else looking into all of this smart home stuff after taking the plunge into alexa/google home.

Blurb:
  • One channel smart thermostat system with two radiator thermostats to start zoning your system. Suitable for combi-boilers.
  • Boost and set schedules for your heating and hot water via the Wiser Heat App.
  • Control the temperature of individual rooms by using the Wiser Radiator Thermostats. Add more radiator thermostats to your system at any point.
  • Use your voice to control your heating with Amazon Alexa.
  • Eco Mode reduces your energy usage to save you money and maximise the efficiency of your heating system.
  • Easy installation from app to thermostat with a UK standard wallplate making it easy to switch from your old heating controls to Wiser.
  • Control up to 16 rooms and 32 devices.
  • Software updates via the Cloud for added security and peace-of-mind.
  • Digital boiler interface for efficient control using OpenTherm technology (only with OpenTherm supporting boilers).
  • Control your heating via the Wiser Heat app even with no internet connection when at home.

This like Hive/nest? Can you control it remotely and can you programme it to come on if you are near your address?

It appears better than Hive and maybe nest. Hive is just a glorified normal thermostat that enables you to control the temps via smart phone home or away from home. I wouldn't see much benefit in that as I have a very programmable multi time slot 7 day "dumb" thermostat as it is. The only good thing Hive offers imo is the geofencing you referenced i.e the auto shutdown or turning on of the heating as you come and go from home. Hive haven't released any smart radiator valves as of yet and don't allow any third party ones to be used to allow proper multi zone heating.

Nest is better in that you don't need to program the thermostat as such and it "learns" your heating habits and also has the geofencing ability. Nest has just now allowed the thermostat to be compatible with energenie mihome radiator valves which is almost the road I went down until seeing this Drayton kit.

This Drayton one is controllable from your phone at home or away from home and allows each individual radiator to be controlled individually saving a lot of money by only heating the rooms you need to the temps you want. The only thing Im not sure on is if it has geofencing or not.

I have taken the bait and bought one myself. If it doesn't work as well as the reviews or the blurb say then I will just send it back and go back to the drawing board.

That was long winded but I hope it helps

Link is dead and I can’t find the lightning deal?

Thanks - wonder why it is getting cold votes? Heating related humour?

To the cold voters, I would appreciate any advise on this subject and any explanation as to why its a cold deal? Price or product and why? Cheers

Not a clue. The cheapest I can find the kit else where is 189.99 at screwfix. Everywhere else is 199.99 and above. The smart radiator valves are cheaper individually to add to the system than the competitors ones too at 34.99. I have asked for advise and instead only get cold votes lol.

I have nest currently but looking to upgrade to either this or the Honeywell Evohome kit

I presume this relies on a remote server to function? If so would it become useless if the company turned off support? And the company could be harvesting information about the personal habits of your household?

Edit: The product description does say "Control your heating via the Wiser Heat app even with no internet connection when at home."

Ah deal expired, the lightening deal has ended. On amazon its back to 219.99. Cheapest around for it now is screwfix at 189.99 as above in one of my other posts. Should I post that instead?

This was something I had worried about but this bit in their blurb made me think it would still work even without their remote server?

"Control your heating via the Wiser Heat app even with no internet connection when at home."

Any ideas?

Hope you are not using the HUKD app.... or any app come to that

Version 5.4.03 can access:
Identity
  • find accounts on the device
  • add or remove accounts
Contacts
  • find accounts on the device
Photos / Media / Files
  • read the contents of your USB storage
  • modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
Storage
  • read the contents of your USB storage
  • modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
Other
  • receive data from Internet
  • view network connections
  • create accounts and set passwords
  • full network access
  • read sync settings
  • run at startup
  • control vibration
  • prevent device from sleeping
  • toggle sync on and off

I've got one of these and it's amazing. Only got the room thermostat but will be adding the TRVs soon. All traffic is internal if you're on your home network so if their server or your internet goes down then it will still work. App works fine externally too and it hooks up with Alexa (no Google yet).

The only thing is can't do is geo-location, but apparently that's on the roadmap

Did the quota get reached as I thought it had time left? Only at 11% when I last looked, or did amazon pull it?

Random...it’s live again

I bought the multizone kit 2 last week for delivery after black Friday. Hoping there's a similar deal for that one in the coming days

I would never use an app to access a particular website, and I've increasingly slimmed down the number of other apps I use and check through for odd permission requirements. The permissions for this app don't seem to ring any alarm bells:

Version 2.4.0 can access:
Wi-Fi connection information
  • view Wi-Fi connections
Other
  • view network connections
  • allow Wi-Fi Multicast reception
  • connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi
  • full network access

But how does the app talk over the internet to the controller? Presumably that is via a server, and what data might be being scrutinised there? I don't see any mention of privacy issues on the Drayton site.

Edit: Actually there is in the support pages:

Schneider Electric established the Global Security Lab as an independent entity to ensure vigilance against the latest threats and enable defense against our systems from a cyber-attack. Our advanced security systems, which operate between Wiser in-home products, App and cloud services, use the same encryption technology as banks to protect end-user data. The Wiser Heat App and all software are continually updated to stay ahead of any potential threats to security. Schneider Electric doesn’t use end-users’ personal data for any purpose other than to improve the service and support provided and the data is not shared with any third parties.

Ideal The reviews on amazon and on the net in general seem to say its brilliant. Its way cheaper than any of the comparable systems like honeywell or the tado. Hopefully they add the geo thing soon and then get google home support sorted and I will be saving a lot of money on my bills and be even happier. On paper this looks a awesome bit of kit and cant understand the cold votes.

I think the deal isn't showing up for me due to me already taking the lightening deal price duhh

I think a lot of people probably realise (after they've bought a fairly expensive gadget like Nest, Hive and tado etc) that they are only really playing at this smart heating lark. Zoning is definitely the way forward which is why I try and stop people forking out on the 'designer' units that do not address the massive inherent weakness in home heating - namely the whole house is either on or off. No-one has just the one light switch for the whole house so why have the one heating switch?
I went with Evohome more or less as soon as it came out and we wouldn't be without it now. They are in the inventors of the thermostat after all! But competition is always good news for the consumer so I welcome new entrants to this sort of zonal heating...

We are a couple in a 3 bed semi. Both work all day so we only need living room and 1 bedroom heated nicely. But don't want to turn the rads off in the other rooms due to possibility of damp. The zoning thermostats are perfect for this. Just such a large outlay and after getting married 5 weeks ago, remote TRV's can wait. Lol.

But Evohome is pretty modular and can be added to month by month..

Anyone know the answer to this or if it's due to come back on offer as it looks a great bit of kit and a very good offer?

I think it's because people don't understand the difference between a single zone and multizone.

I can’t decide if this will be worth it for a three bed semi? You’d heat the bottom floor and the heat rises to the top floor?

Because Nest have spent a shedload on marketing, I would guess.
