A couple of quid cheaper than the recent Amazon deal which went hot, so this should be a scorcher.

I really enjoyed this. However the blu ray is actually a little iffy. The 3D version is perfect however the 2D version has sections where the quality really dips and the image is very noisy. This is possibly due to them squeezing the 2D and 3D versions onto 1 disc.
Looks like it's expired.Link not working.
Beats 7 shades of dung out of the Stallone version. Actually, I would pay money to watch Karl Urban kick Stallone's runty, high heeled, steroid enhanced backside in reality.
Hmm... guess I should have posted this after all
Hmmm, dubious reviews, thought it was boring and very cheaply made. Bought it when it was released and was very disappointed.

Do you seriously think that would happen? You're a dreamer, it would be the other way around! Stallone has still got it. I'd pay money to watch him kick your scrawny backside whilst you try to apologise for that comment.

Agreed, unfortunately it only screened as 3D in a lot of US cinemas, and flopped as a result.

Well, I wish is was "moronic" enough to have avoided it. I went to see it in the cinema and hated it. For me, it was Judge Dredd as written by Americans - overly violent, no humour and no story

So just like the comic books it's based on then?

Not at all. Dredd as in 2000AD has a lot of dry humour and farce at times too. Many of the stories has substance too. This film didn't. It was as bad as the Stallone version but for different reasons

If you were expecting a fluffy romantic comedy, maybe you should read the synopsis of a film or watch a trailer before deciding to go and see it.
Bargain price. Ordered. Feel like I'm going to be locked up in the ISO cubes for getting it at this price!!!
Rented this movie from blockbuster in 3D against my girlfriends will but turned out we both loved it! 4/5 for the movie 5/5 for the price

At what point did I say that I wanted a "fluffy romantic comedy"? I know enough about Judge Dredd to know what to expect, but what I didn't like was the gore-for-gore's-sake and slo-mo nonesense. I did read reviews and watch trailers but what I didn't realise was how crap the film was going to be as a whole. Maybe try not to be so condescending next time?

The slo-mo was part of the story that you clearly didn't realise was there. It's also widely regarded as the best use of 3d in a long time. This isn't a film review site btw; lucky for you as I'd be able to hear the laughter from here :-)
Great film thoroughly enjoyed it. Karl Urban's face must've have ached after making it keeping the Dredd grimace constantly

Is it National Condescension Day today? I know exactly what the slo-mo was about but I didn't expect them to shoehorn it in at every available opportunity such as the sequence following the bullet through the gut and cheek etc. As I said, I didn't enjoy the film and felt that it missed entirely the point of Dredd from the 2000AD comics. Diasgree by all means, but point-scoring and bitchy comments? Surely you're more mature than that?

Actually, a very good comment there. That the yawningly tediously named "Mad Hatter" (wow THATS original too....oh no, wait. It isn't) couldn't manage.
YES. It failed because there was WAAAAAY too much blood and gore, unnecessarily so.
Not enough judges, too much "mama" Virtually NO humour. That was always present in the comics. yes, now you mention it, there IS a very strong yank influence in the script. No humour, blood and guts, blatant bad guys, still....I enjoyed it and would suggest them taking a leaf out of the actual writers and have THEM doing the screenplay.
Love them to do the "Day the Law Died" as a movie. Chief Judge Cal (based on Caligula)
bought from sainsbury for 12.99 , watched once and sold on ebay for 11.98...
cant be bad, cheaper then renting.
This was a great Dredd film, such a shame it was released in 3D only. What a bad decision.

Dredd's a long running character and has had some lighter stories but fundamentally it was about fighting the tide of Crime in a brutal society. The writers picked up the fundamental theme and ran with it. If they put in some "lighter" bits it would have probably detracted from the intensity that the writers wanted to instil.

My 2p's worth

Thanks for that. There were too many departures from the source: no proper MegaCity 1, lawmaster wasn't right, lawgiver wasn't really used enough, Judges seemed too "human". As a film, it never really rose above an average action film and that was what it felt like to me - an average action film with Judge Dredd bolted on. Shame really as I thouh Urban looked quite good as Dredd and DIDN'T TAKE HIS HELMET OFF!

With grammar like that I can't help but think that I would be wasting my time listing my all-time great films because they require a certain level of intelligence that violent CGI-packed Hollywood films (aimed at teenagers) don't require. As for mocking the originality of my HotUKDeals handle, that made me smile. You've used your real name. Anyway, PhilK, it's Mister MadHatter to you, please show some respect.

But on a serious note, why are you offended by another person's opinion on a film? I'm pleased you enjoyed Dredd; it's people like you that keep Hollywood churning out mindless films that rely on CGI and violence and a lack of character representation and storyline, thereby preventing the proper films from receiving any funding. Keep your Dredd panties on anyway Phil and try not to be such a hothead. You obviously idolise Dredd so start acting like him.

I'm joking of course!!

Agree on the yanks - I enjoyed it but I agree on a lot of negatives (you CAN still enjoy a film, but agree on lots of criticism - can't understand why people think if you agree such and such was tripe, you have to DISLIKE a film)The main baddie was dreadful and weak and no character. Too much ho hum, not enough of Dredd and too much of Anderson - back to the issues thing. Got to be lots of "strong women" - usual crap these days.
BUT Karl Urban WAS good as Dredd. The baddie judges where not used enough, and umpteen ideas were there to use from the Comics and weren't.
BUT - I did enjoy it, but wouldn't pay a tenner. I'm in no rush

I agree with most of what you said there; he was a very good Dredd
