Synopsis

A feared urban cop takes on a vicious city drug dealer in a futuristic metropolis as director Pete Travis (VANTAGE POINT) and screenwriter Alex Garland (28 DAYS LATER, SUNSHINE) team to bring iconic 2000A.D. lawman Judge Dredd to the big screen. In the future, much of North America has been poisoned by radiation. The sprawling urban jungle Mega City One stretches from Boston to Washington D.C., and in order to keep the growing criminal element in check, police enforcers called 'Judges' have been given the power of judge, jury, and executioner. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of them all, delivering death sentences with impunity as he fights to rid the streets of 'Slo-Mo' -- a powerful new drug that alters its user's perception of time. In the process of training psychic rookie Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), Dredd receives a report of an incident in a sprawling criminal stronghold ruled by fearsome drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), and ventures in to investigate. Upon learning that one of her top men has been captured by Dredd shortly thereafter, an enraged Ma-Ma seizes control of her massive 200-story complex, launching an all-out war against the Judges as Dredd and Cassandra find themselves trapped in the belly of the beast

I really enjoyed this movie, so did my fiance...we got it for £12.99 on monday from sainsburys, this is very good for a good 3D movie too.

Film failed as Judge Dread couldnt solve the case of the missing audience

Why would a judge be trying to solve a case? Obviously a flawed premise to begin with!

.......Dredd?

Brilliant film, deserved to do much better at the box office

Dredd is good, but unfortunate it happened to have a very similar plot to The Raid: Redemption (which I thought was superior, despite Alex "28 Days Later" Garland writing Dredd). Still, apparently this is one of those films that works best for 3D - like Tron: Legacy and Tintin before it. Good price! HEAT

Brilliant film, deserved to do so much better at the box office.

Good film, shocking blu-ray. PQ jumps from pristine (slo-mo scenes) to horrific (anything in the dark) Audio is immense though. Some terrific base in there.

Good movie and same story as the raid which was also good.

This was written before the raid aswell.

Great film and great price, have some heat from me.

Personally I think I'm gonna hold out a bit longer, I can just see this one dropping quite quickly, even though it deserves to do well.

Both Dredd (which I loved) and The Raid (on the 'to watch' list) owe a debt to Die Hard.

I really enjoyed it, so it's been ordered!

Not really because the office block scenario was used loads of times in Dredd the comic strip long before Die Hard. I recall a whole set of stories to do with block wars. The scenario was used because it was cheap and self contained. The other Dredd movie amongst other things was too ambitious and just skimmed over content.

Brilliant film, really enjoyed it.

Terrible film..cant believe people think its great...felt a bit like The Raid...only thing is Raid is a billion times better

Wooden acting..rubbish plot..terrible script

Ah i know why people liked it because they are brainless and love the cgi

Oh and Raid is way way more violent with amazing fight scenes....which you dont expect after the b movie start

Saying "The Raid is better than Dredd" is the new "Hunger Games is a rip-off of Battle Royale".

Just when I thought I had the best deal at £13 this comes along. Shoulda waited.

Dredd FTW

much better than Stallone's attempt, he didn't even keep the helmet on!

You don't have to be brainless to enjoy Dredd. You just need the ability to remove the stick of superiority from your ass.

Loved it - saw it for the first time last night in 3D and thought it was a great watch, also enjoyed it being in 3D

everyone is entitled to their opinions , the irony of your brainless comment made me laugh

Or Hard Boiled.

I enjoyed this film, picture quality was fine, 3D was also good only slight crosstalk on a few bits.

I thought the 3D combined with the Slo-Mo sequences was neat.

I watch 100s of films a year Raid is way better than this dredd dross...just expected better

Dredd must have one if worst ever film endings...tell me one good thing that happened in this film..for me the worst part was the first slow mo sequence...i mean after 20 secs we got it but it seemed to go on forever it was ridiculous

good solid pic for us hipsters in the know.

Also did the lead actor chew on a wasp as he seemed to struggle to speak

raid was a let down for us folks that can lip read or expected to see ants and other crawling bugs.

royals

that was called acting like dredd

Did Dredd do something nasty to you in the past? You seem mighty offended by a film that was widely regarded (by the small audience who saw it) to be accurate to the source material and a decent, gritty comic book movie.

You claim Dredd is brainless and The Raid is a better movie as it has more violent fighting scenes.....
Yes, because that wasn't a brainless argument.

I haven't seen The Raid, I'll see it eventually as I have heard nothing but praise and understand they're making a sequel, but to argue that a film is more cerebral than another because it has more violence seems a bit backward...

Teddy

You havent seen raid so your argument is null and void

No i was annoyed as i was expecting it to be a hell of alot better....leads acting was just terrible and not an attempt to be realistic...annoyed i wasted 2 hours ish....hollywood spends more time churning out rubbish like this that relies on cgiband forgets to tell a story

I acknowledged that I haven't seen The Raid, but as my argument wasn't over which is a better movie, but rather why Dredd is not so terrible as you seem to be repeatedly proclaiming(whilst appearing to suggest your opinion is fact), then I'd hardly say my argument is null and void.

A comic book movie seek in a futurisitc dystopian society NOT being realistic? Surely not!

Dredd wasn't a Hollywood movie, it was a British-South African movie.

Why do so many people get the Dredd/Raid timeline wrong? Here's what happened.

2008 - Alex Garland (writer of 28 Days Later & Sunshine) pens the Dredd script.
July 2010 - Dredd Script leaks online
Nov 2010 - Shooting for Dredd starts.
Nov 2010 - Gareth Evans (Who at this point has only directed 2 poor films) changes his mind on what film he wants to do next, The Raid enters production
March 2011 - The Raid Starts filming.
Sep 2011 - The Raid premiers at Toronto Film Festival
July 2012 - Dredd premiers at San Diego Comic Con

The only thing The Raid did before Dredd was screen. Which has been pretty unfortunate for Dredd as it's led to unfair accusations of plagiarism.
