Dropbox offering 25GB free space for students/those with academic email address

25
Found 4th Oct 2015
Only open to those with an academic email address, but worthwhile if you do have one.

Details:

Dropbox Campus Cup allows students, faculty, and staff at eligible universities to earn Dropbox space. Participants can earn up to 25 GB per person for two years by rallying others at their school to join in. The more your school participates, the more space everyone earns.

How do I sign up for Campus Cup?

Visit the Campus Cup homepage
Sign in to your Dropbox Basic or Pro account (if you’re not signed in already)
Or create an account, if you don’t yet have one
Verify an email address from a college, university, or higher education institution (for example, one with an ".ac" or ".edu" domain)
Check your email to verify and complete signup

When does Campus Cup start and end?

The official Campus Cup challenge begins on September 17, 2015 and ends on December 14, 2015. During this time you can earn Dropbox space for yourself and others at your school. You won’t be able to earn additional space after December 14, 2015. However, the space you earn through Campus Cup will be available on the Dropbox account you signed in with for two years (through January 1, 2018).

TEAM OPEN UNI it's already earned 4k+ points thanks op
nice
I remember when Dropbox first started, it was 5GB free straight!, then ..... (lets just say the 2GB they give now is somewhat wanting ... but its free I guess, so fair enough?), lol. :-)
Well it's not actually 25GB, you fail to mention in your post that additional signups, app downloads, email invites etc etc are then required to earn up to 25GB. Title should be adjusted to the correct storage given at sign up.
Cold.
Takes you to a Referral code. Isn't this against the rules?
You don't have to refer. There is a skip button. I've joined but not referred and see the extra space. Thanks OP!
I do like Dropbox but I'm not sure how they expect to win over students like this when the majority are getting 1TB for free on MS OneDrive as part of Office 365.
Don't do it! Your University will give you MS Office 365 for 4 years FREE + 5tb of OneDrive space!!!

Not all of them, they don't.
Is there a way to sign up for a free academic email address somewhere ?

I was in school way before the Internet

Thanks for pointing it out - sounds silly but I actually didn't notice (just copy-pasted the link Dropbox gave me after I signed up). Anyway, the mods have removed it now so it is a "clean" link to the campus cup. Meantime I did get one referral, so thanks to that one person

I agree there are plenty of other options to choose from these days, and many give you more storage space by default - this offer is perhaps especially useful for those like me who are already dropbox users or already have a lot of team-shared stuff on dropbox - and anyway, since it's free, it's a "may as well do it" for those who have the right email address.

Check if there is an alumni organisation you can join. They sometime give out ac.uk email addresses.
My uni offer 1tb through onedrive, not free, i pay £9k a year for the privilege, but worth asking your uni to invest in office 365

You OBVIOUSLY don't understand the ideals of HUKD fella

So the idea of HUKD is to find ways to get discounts from companies you aren't entitled to which at the end of the day will only result in these sort of offers being withdrawn from everything.

It's one thing to want to get a bargain, quite another to be after a substantial discount you are not entitled to for a luxury item.

I suspect it won't be long before such discounts can only be accessed when connected to a university network.
What happens when you are out of uni and you have 25GB of data ?

Will they just revert you back to the free 2GB and making you lose data?

Same question for the 2 year 50GB offer you get with some phones
you might also see if one of your kids has an email address from school

and if not ask the school if they have email addresses for students

some schools do this so they can send school information, homework assignments etc

You will not lose any data, but you will not be able to add any more files until you get your files down below the 2GB limit.
