Found 5th Dec 2012
- Cheapest dual-core phone out there
- Unlocked (tested with a T-mobile sim card)
- Comes with a micro-sim adapter as well
- Has black bottom clip cover as standard but comes with an additional colour (i.e. the colour you chose).

This phone is available elsewhere (e.g. ASDA DIrect for £149) but you can get it for under £120 delivered or buy in-store for £128.

Available in white, pink, yellow or black.

Wont be too hard to root, etc and I am sure the HUKD community will provide all the relevant support to do so.

Update:
Also available from Phones4u for £139.95 (with £10 O2 top-up) or £149.95 sim free.

Also tested with Giff Gaff sim and is confirmed unlocked

Note this is cheaper that the ASDA Direct deal posted previously.

can OP put @ Virgin Mobile into title or something similar
Good deal, heat added.
Funny enough I've just had a call from Virgin Media trying to get me to have a mobile phone contract with them. All well and good apart from the fact that this is the second call from them this week as well as 2 calls from them in November as well as all the leaflets I get posted from them about it. The worse thing is that they don't take no for an answer, even when you explain that you've already got 2 contracts that don't run out till the end of next year. Told them not to call again.
Probably get another call next week.

Had the same thing last year. Got really annoyed & phoned up Virgin to cancel the home entertainment contract. They agreed that I had the right to an early termination of the contract because of 'harassment' from Virgin Mobile. Wound up getting half price TV & Broadband for a year, and they put a block in that stopped Virgin Mobile from being able to make speculative calls to my number.

Virgin Mobile are separate from Virgin Media. Personal experience of Virgin Media is that they are good people to deal with, not so sure about Virgin Mobile.
i have been very happy with virgin mobile no problems and a stonking retention deal from them last month

Definitely agree with you about Virgin Media. Very happy with their service and the staff are always happy to help.
good price, dual core, shame about the screen size...4.0 or bigger and this would be a sweet spot...heat added though

Asda has the phone for £149 (o2), and have teamed up with Sony Mobile to offer buyers a £50 Asda gift card. Effectively making the phone £99.

On a side note, Sony Mobile has the phone for £134.10 unlocked due to their 10% off everything offer for anyone wanting it sim free.

Yeah good deal but the only problem with that is you're not getting cash back, you're getting a voucher. So still paying £150 in my eyes as I'm not a regular shopper at ASDA, more of a Morrisons man myself.

I see where you're coming from. However with Asda's Price Guarantee stating:

If we're not 10% cheaper than Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose on your comparable grocery shopping we'll give you the difference. Guaranteed!

I'm assuming Asda 'will do' for anyone with an Asda nearby for the spending of the gift card.

Still, its a good deal for anyone not wanting/being able to shop at Asda.

EDIT: Not sure what's happened to the quoting system oO

I took delivery of one last night and was very pleased to discover it was unlocked (giff gaff sim) but not very pleased you need a windows pc to update it to a later android version...

you broke it by adding a / at the start of quote tag
Updated the post folks as I've tested it and can confirm it is unlocked - works with my T-mobile sim card just fine.
Surprised this isn't getting hotter, its a cheaper deal then the one posted like it...
t-mobile is same network as virgin, so it doesn't prove it's unlocked I guess. t-mobile/orange/virgin are all at the same network.

can anybody else confirm it works with other carriers (o2/vodafone)?

Thanks for that.

I also tested a 3 PAYG sim which also worked fine.
I'm not trying to undermine your opinion/experience here, but that's what I was told by VirginMobile assistant:

Emma: You can get your Virgin Mobile unlocked by just calling our customer service team (789 for free) and you'll need to pay £15.32 unlocking charge.
You: so initially it comes locked to VM?
Emma: Yes.

What are the chances of getting locked/unlocked phone? Also does VM put some bloatware on their android phones?
Good deal for this phone unlocked...
is this one of the best in its current price range
Not bleeding edge but decent phone.
Good spec, wouldn't swap it for my huawei G300 though, dual core or not. If the screen was bigger and it had an SD slot it would be much better. Not really fond of the style of the phone either

My colleague at work today bought one last night from Darlington. So if the Virgin Media man at the store is anything to go by, he said the opposite - i.e. it was unlocked (he was using one at the time) and there was no Virgin Media software installed on the phone nor any customisations.

Did you test with one from the shop or website?
I work in the sales dept for virgin media and we also sell virgin mobile, we're told all the phones are locked to our network, although some of them might not be, we don't know which ones. good deal though, you can also get it on a 24 month contract, £23 per month Premiere tariff which is very popular atm.

Emma is quite talented. She seems to be handling every query simultaneously!
It will be locked, but the t-mobile simlock is same as virgin media as virgin is a virtual network on t-mobile.

These are from the shop.

I also work for Virgin Media... (okay, okay I can't maintain that joke)!

Good find and decent enough phone
Both my parents have this phone and it's great. The build quality is excellent and it has very good performance. I would heartily recommend this phone
Going to hold off ordering until someone can confirm that the ones from the website are actually unlocked.
Which is the better phone this or the nokia lumia 800???
cant seem to find the pink one, only the black & white.

black comes with pink changing bit
white comes with yellow.
So what you get is: black/pink or white/yellow.

I would say this as the Nokia is let down by its limited number of apps.
Trying to decide if I go with Sony Xperia U or the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 or Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.

All 3 phones are based on the same dual-core processor.

The differences seem to be:
Android 4.0 or 4.1
MicroSD or internal only.
Samsung's have more internal RAM
