For those of you considering picking up a PS4 in future please note that these controllers will NOT be compatible. Was planning on picking up a couple at some point but not much reason to now.

PS4 won't be able to play second hand games either so no point in getting rid of your PS3 .. so you might be needing those controllers after all!

Sorry .. you're right, according to latest reports PS4 will not be blocked from playing second hand games (this month at least!) but as you say it won't be backward compatible so you may want to still keep that PS3 .. if not only for old times sake ... sigh

Surprised the controllers won't be compatible. I would have thought they would have been.

PS: PlayStation Plus = Top purchase. Lost track of how many free games I have got (yes I know it is just whilst you have subs but I don't intend changing that any time soon).

Sony just trying to shift all their left over stock before the PS4 hits production

I bought 2 DS2's for my PS2 before they went rare (for new ones) and still have them boxed!

Rarely use the PS2 now.

In store at Asda it's still £39.95 just for the controller. If you need one I'd say this deal is the best option for you.

The ps4 has a bluray drive fgs! Afaik Sony didn't mention anything about no cross compatibility.

They have confirmed that PS3 games won't be supported. It's a completely different architecture.

I think the intention is to use Gaikai to facilitate older games. Much like they release PS2 stuff on PS3 through PSN now. Direct backward compatibility would be a nightmare now they have switched to x86/x64 architecture. Would require hefty emulation or extra hardware and both would increase costs too much.

I can live with PS3 for PS3 games to be honest.

my PC has a bluray player it doesn't play PS3 games. they aren't using the CELL anymore its now an x86 architecture so it would require massive amounts of emulation which the PS4 or any PC come to that wouldn't be able to handle right now.

why's it a pre order is this a new controller ? available at 33 in Amazon without p plus

True, they only just stopped producing the PS2 a few months ago

Strange, people thought the ps2 controller wouldnt work on ps3 but it does through an adapter. And im sure ds3 will work on ps4 through wire.

yeah but who bought a ps2 to ps3 adapter in 2008 to use their ps2 controller from 2000?
not to mention the adapter would cost 10 to 15 quid atleast.

Adapter was like £2 on ebay to connect my ds2 controllers to a pc. I was thrilled when I tried it on ps3 /and it worked. Also, I dont use it for single player but on the rare occasions of 4 player games its a much more cost effective system.

What's the best price for just the controller? Paid £30 for 12 months PS+ not that long ago, would rather save the money and get the controller alone if possible.

Try the "refurbished" ones from focal price. They are high quality, the best fake ever!
