Duet Display - Use your iPad as a second screen (Windows/MAC) £9.99 itunes

Not as cheap as a few years ago, but currently 50% off. Not sure how long for though.

I’ve been travelling more for work, and having two screens really helps for what I do. I understand this might not be for everyone, but it works really well and is over your lightning cable so supposedly less lag than WiFi alternatives!

From the App Store description:

Duet is the first app that allows you to use your iDevice as an extra display for your Mac using the Lightning or 30-pin cable.

Duet is built by ex-Apple engineers, delivering a retina display at 60 frames per second with zero lag. Seriously.

Even though you pay £9.99 it still says ‘in app purchases’. It’s not clear what the in app purchase gets you (which even that appears to be subscription based) but obviously £9.99 on its own isn’t going to get you everything

Looks to Meas if £9.99 WILL give you all the features mentioned here. The in-app purchases all relate to "Duet Pro" - which adds using the Apple Pencil on iPad Pros.

You are correct in thinking that some of the in app purchases are for a subscription.

This is partly true. The additional charges are for a yearly subscription. See my post above.
Warning: Having the Duet Display software installed on your PC (even without having the ipad connected) can negatively affect how Steam's Big Picture mode works (i.e. it'll force it to use default graphics drivers and run V. poorly). I gather this may be a consequence of having a 144hz primary display and a secondary display running at different refresh rate, but I had this specific issue with Duet Display.

Edit: That said, it functions really well. Very little input lag, switches between landscape and portrait mode seamlessly if moved. The only other negative I have is that your PC USB output very likely DOESN'T have enough ampage to charge the iPad while in use, so you'll only get a few hours out of it at a time.

Still don't agree - if you don't need "Duet Pro"- which is an extended product to add drawing using the Apple Pencil - the FAQ seems pretty clear ("one time cost") that there is NO annual subscription. As in my post above!

Their windows software caused my XPS 15 to black screen every time I start any game, anyone experienced this as well? Had to uninstall it...

This isn't an ideal solution, but have you tried running your games in borderless window mode?

Edit: Sorry, I didn't actually answer your question: I didn't have this same issue, but I DID have issues running games (specifically thru Steam's Big Picture mode) as described above. I also had to uninstall it. £10 wasted.

Ampage!

No no no

It is current!
Good reviews, probably not ideal for gaming though.
Thanks OP. Had my eye on on this for a while, made the leap now!
Has been this price for a while purchased 3 weeks ago. Great app
Purchased this for use with my Surface Pro 4- it's nice to have a second screen for email/remote desktop. Had a quick play on Friday night using it with an iPad Mini and it worked really well; certainly much cheaper than buying a dedicated portable USB monitor.
