btw i was in ASDA today and found there non drip gloss in the sale section for £1.50 for 750ml the same size as this, is branded 'my home' or something, the other derivatives were reduced to £1.50 as well e.g. satin and quick dry gloss, but they get much worse reviews, the non drip gloss has 5/5

I am pretty sure the Dulux Once Gloss was the same price - and I think the water based versions too in store

When I first glanced at this I misread it to be 'durex' so clicked in to read the funny comments, then realised its for boring old paint

Same price at tesco

I'd never buy cheap gloss, it goes yellow after 6 months and you have to pay more and do it again anyway.

Johnstones water based gloss is the way to go. Expensive outlay but pays for itself in the long run in time and money. yes you heard right it is water based. Check the reviews on the net if you don't believe me. Very very good gear.

Yup, I agree totally about water based, painted the entire woodwork in the house with Johnstones egg shell white oil based, the whole job had gone cream / yellow within 6 months... At pretty much the same time that the solvent smell went away!

the price has nothing to do with a paints ability to stay white

It's not the price they are complaining about. If you could buy something cheap and it lasts 6months or buy more expensive to last at least 2-3 years which would you choose? (I'm guessing the 2-3 years part)Don't forget to take into account the time and effort to do all the painting aswell.

Hi
How long would you say it lasts? Or does it not turn yellow at all? I'm planning to redecorate as we last decorated in 2005. Was supposed to be moving this year but doesn't look like that's the plan anymore so may aswell refresh the house

It does not turn yellow end of. Apparently its not as hard wearing though? The juries still out on that for me, the mad thing is though it looks like the oil based stuff and feels like it. All manufacturers have had to reduce voc's in there paint making yellowing worse ( cheers Europe ) hence why water based is the future. Also you only use water to wash your brushes and the paints dry in two hours. Oh and there's no smell to it either. Bonus!

certainly doesnt look and feel like oil based to me. more like water, hard to apply, drips, needs multiple coats and comes off with the slightest knock (tried b&q and dulux)

chocci- try 1 Ltd of Johnstones and then decide. That's what I did and I won't be using any other from now on.
