The Hotel

3524289.jpg
A former friary located a 10-minute drive from the centre of Dumfries, the Friars Carse country house hotel matches its Baronial entrance hall with a red-brick facade on a 45-acre estate in the Scottish Borders.

The 21 bedrooms are traditionally decorated with wooden furnishings and wall tapestries matching the drapery, and feature en suite bathrooms, TVs and hospitality trays.

The Whistle Restaurant serves seasonal dishes prepared with locally sourced produce, while the bar comes in handy when it comes to tipples and refreshing beverages after a game at the full-size table in the snooker room.

3524289.jpg
Private sea trout, grayling and salmon fishing is possible on the River Nith, with tackle storage, drying room and freezing facilities also available on site, while the surrounding area invites guests for clay pigeon shooting, cycling and golf.

Groupon’s Guide to Dumfriesshire

Guests may go rambling around the river banks and hillsides of Southwest Scotland, endeavour on the biking trails or walk around the Moffat Hills.

3524289.jpg
Visitors may explore the historic attractions of Caerlaverock Castle, Dundrennan Abbey Sweetheart Castle and Threave Castle, or witness the displays of Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum, and Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura.

It tells you right in the description, there are some great castles and abbey's to visit in the nearby area (Caerlaverock Castle is especially good), and the Wetlands centre. You've got the town of Dumfries to visit (with it's Robbert Burns Museum) and you can take a short drive out to Gretna, Annan, and even Carlisle which is only about 50 minutes away. The Samye Ling Tibetan Monastry just past Lockerbie is a great place to drive out to as well.

Should I take my wife or girlfriend?
If you go direct to the hotel website it offers a DBB option for £89 - anyone know if this is the same offer as the Groupn deal? ie wine and 2 course meal.

Also, never booked through Groupon before and we are after 3 rooms - can i sign up 3 times with Groupon but pay with the same card and get the WELCOME bonus on each room?

Ta
Heat for the name of the location!!
Stayed here back in July 2016, it was a flea pit. It had rubbish under the bed from previous guests, the shower was disgusting to the point we didn't use it in case we caught something, the curtains had partly fell off and the whole hotel smelt awful. The only saving grace from our stay was leaving in the morning before breakfast.

I would advise anyone to leave well alone unless the hotel have has changed hands and been completely refurbished.
I live nearby too, the hotel has changed hands sometime last year I think.
If you already have a Groupon acct then put LOCAL22 in the discount/code and apply it. It will then say this is expired but offers you 12% off bringing the price down to £78.32
If your doing this deal Grey Mare's Tail near Moffat is Scotlands 2nd biggest waterfall (I think) and worth considering for a visit.
Grey Mare’s Tail and Samye Ling are a good drive away from here. Not the closest attractions. If they are open try Ellisland Farm (Burns lived there before he moved into Dumfries, Drumlanrig Castle where some years ago thieves stole the masterpiece ‘Madonna with the yarn winder’. Further up the road at Crawick (past Sanquhar), is the Multiverse which was designed by Charles Jencks, the husband of Maggie Jencks nee Keswick of Maggie’s Cancer Centres fame. It’s on the same lines as the garden at their former home which is called The Garden of Cosmic Speculation but that’s only open to the public a couple of times a year. Saying that though, one of the times is usually Scotland’s version of Doors Open Weekend and if you are lucky enough to get in, it’s well worth seeing that one. Sanquhar also has the old Post Office in the world if you fancy sending a postcard or two. The village of Thornhill has some lovely hotels and cafes as well as plenty posh gift shops and boutiques.
I'm local to here, been to a fair few weddings at Friars Carse over the years, it is a very nice hotel.
I dont dought that this deal is good but used groupon for years and not had a problem but you need to be very careful buying off them now I have deals bought befor covid and dealing with their customer services is a nightmare they are extreemely rude only offer credits back instead of money back onto your card. Read some of the reviews on google before you spend a lot of money on their deals. I personally will never use them again. Sorry to the op for hijacking your post I haven't voted either way. I would have voted hot for your deal like many others have but after my experience with customer services they are the worst company I have ever dealt with.
heat meant - accidentally clicked cold

You COULD offer to let us stay, thus saving even more money...
Looking for something similar in Yorkshire if anyone knows anywhere, country house with evening meal. I cant seem to find anywhere.
I need a deal like this but to include a child & a dog! 😔
Is there an after taste?
I've stayed there before I moved up to Dumfries and Galloway permanently. It's in a lovely location but WiFi signal was atrocious.
