Handy to stock up for xmas.

So how many do you get?

Is £3.99 the normal price for 4?

8 batteries per pack for £3.99 = 50p per battery

or

If you take advantage of the 3 for 2 offer - 24 batteries for £7.98 = 33p per battery.

thats a great offer

Tesco are doing 8 packs get 8 free for £4.95 (or less) which works out at 31p/batt for 16 batts!

save your money and buy rechargeable

Netto (instore only) sells packs of 8 Duracell AA for £2.39 (= 29.8p each for 8 batts).

These are a dreadful buy.

Anything that needs alkalines, you would be better off with some Vapex Instants:

If you need a charger, this would be a good buy

How long do these hold charge for?

Alkaline batteries are OBSOLETE

Depends on application. Items that don't draw much power are much better served by Alkalines or Lithium's as they hold charge much, much longer. Rechargables as a rule lose charge very quickly & certainly have nowhere near the shelf life of a Alkaline when in a charged state.

The new generation of rechargeables, i.e. the Sanyo Eneloop, Ansmann eMax, GP recyko+, Aculoop, Uniross Hybrio, and the Vapex Instant, have vastly superior discharge characteristics compared to legacy nimh batteries.

Legacy nimh batteries will be flat within a few weeks. These ones are supposed to retain 70% of charge stored for 2 years at 20 degrees, with even better characteristics if you store at lower temperatures.

There is no real application for alkalines any more.
