I caught the end of 'Signs' on TV last night, which got me to thinking if there were any other films from this same director (he's also responsible for 'Sixth Sense', 'Unbreakable', 'The Village' etc) that I didn't have, but were available for less than it would cost to rent them from Blockbuster.

This same title appears to be almost double this price elsewhere, so this is somewhat of a bargain I think!

It's not as highly rated as his other films, but is somewhat of a hidden gem according to many of the reviews I've seen. Judging by his previous output, I thought that it was well worth a try at this price.

Just £2.99 delivered, or even less if you can benefit from the current 9% offered by hmv via Quidco.

Synopsis:

Kindly caretaker Cleveland Heep (Paul Giamatti, SIDEWAYS) discovers an elfin creature named Story (Bryce Dallas Howard, THE VILLAGE) living in the swimming pool of the apartment complex where he works. It soon becomes apparent to Cleveland that Story is not of this world, and that her mission to deliver a message to mankind is fraught with danger. The stuttering caretaker tries valiantly to protect her so that she may have safe passage back to the Blue World from whence she came. Suspension of disbelief is mandatory in this beautifully realised modern day fable, directed by master of suspense M. Night Shyamalan, who puts his own unique spin on the conventions of the traditional fairy tale.

Not so much a hidden gem as a turd in a swimming pool. Lady In The Water moves at the same leisurely pace as all MNS's other movies but this one just leaves the viewer bored and irritated instead of fascinated. Basically MNS creates his own synthetic fairy tale then has it all come magically true for the mismatched inhabitants of one US condo. It's whimsy for grown-ups with some A list actors mugging away as if they really want to feel it but aren't quite getting there. MNS attacked the studio for mucking his script about before the movie was even released. It's hard to tell whether they did the damage or whether they were trying in vain to stop MNS pursuing his vision up his own fundament.

In the same league as Signs and The Village
It's been £2.99 a while as I bought it for my daughter at this price before Christmas.

This has to be one of the worst films ever made... I'm not even going to explain my opinion because every poor soul thats seen this film will agree.

If you haven't seen it then you're one of the lucky ones.

Actually from the IMDB ratings about 2 in 3 people think it's a pretty good film (rating it 6 or more out of 10).

I quite liked it. But as with all MNS films, I saw it once, and never feel the need to see it again.

Voted hot. Its a great film, easily as good as Signs or Unbreakable.

I've liked all his other films, so guessing I will like this one. Thanks OP
