Dyson DC40 Multi-Floor Vacuum (2015) £189 @ Currys

I bought one of these in May the last time Currys reduced to this price. I know some folk have a hit or miss experience with Dysons but on the whole it's a great price. I'm delighted with it - well worth it compared to some of the hoovers we've had in the past. It copes brilliantly with the dog hair in our house just with the regular attachment.

We've got one. Decent machine, hose doesn't seem to last too long but they're easy to source and easy to replace.

Was just looking at the dc50 on their eBay site (I know it's a refurb) for only a tenner more. Any thoughts? Seems to be between a Dyson and a miele? The pull-along Dysons seem to be small capacity?

The thing that put me off the miele was simply the on-going costs with the dust bags. They're definitely good - my mother has one - very good for pet hair, but those bags fill up quickly. Unfortunately haven't used the dc50, but £199 for a Dyson seems a reasonable price compared to normal RRP (although I think they're vastly overpriced at £300+)

I don't get the negatives. I have had my trusty Dyson for 12 years, still running strong ( and I vacuum 3-4 times a week!).
I have had the odd service done by Dyson - other than that, absolutely no issues. Would recommend Dyson over any other any time.

BTW, my current machine is my 3rd Dyson in 18 years - only updated as my mum "appropriated" my last one!

Hmmmm.... maybe time to update models

Voting hot - thanks op.

I've found Dyson uprights to be excellent on domestic carpets.
When using the hose I find it awkward, but I can't argue with the beater head carpet cleaning, first class. And of course, in 2015 we don't do dusty bags any more!

What's the expiry date in this deal? Thanks

from what iv seen of reviews people like the older models (like yours) but not the newer ones. They are reported to be flimsier, small capacity, and prone to falling over. Iv been researching for ages trying to pick the best model - its very confusing!

Great find, available from John Lewis with 5 year guarantee:

All full size dysons come with a 5 year guarantee anyway...

Remember dust bags are now replaced by filters and sometimes cleaning the 'cyclone assembly', which can get a bit blocked up (and aren't supposed to be home-servicable).
There's something to be said about the simplicity of bags.

On that, if you want real power, look for a used Kirby; but even second hand expect to pay a fair wad of cash.

DC14 and DC33 should both be good choices for 'older model' Dysons that aren't quite so flimsy etc.
Some places do reconditioned versions with a warranty, but of course what 'reconditioned' means varies from "picked up out of skip and slapped a sticker on" to "fully serviced, inspecting everything and replacing all bits needed".

I just contacted Dyson directly and they offered me the DC40 plus free tool kit worth £44 + free delivery all for £179.98 I ordered and being delineate day
