Great price. Would it not be eligible for the normal 5 year warranty?

No - it's refurbished, so a reduced warranty of 2 years.
I'm a bit annoyed, as it was only a few weeks ago that I paid £150 for this

The ignorance of many who post is outstanding. One can provide deals without posting deals.
People are entitled to their opinion. One can purchase new vacuum cleaners with a 5 year warranty at a lower cost and higher air watts. Refurbished may indicate a previously faulty machine - not a sign of reliability.

I have a Panasonic with a 6 year warranty. Works fine and is powerful. I cannot see it sold (may be due to EU law and limits on power).

On the Curry's website you can buy Vax machines with 6 year warranty for less than £100.
E.g. VAX Air Stretch Pet Plus U85-AS-PPE

I did buy a Dyson, but gave it to my mum as her machine broke down. It performs well. I had to replace the belt twice.
I find the design awkward when doing stairs. I do not like the design, but the Dyson only cost £100 from Asda many years ago. My sister's Dyson broke after 5 years.

Never had any problems using it so far (3 year old micro, 3 year old iron), just requires the right approach (_;)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of these bra-burning liberal types and only expect to get what I pay for, but I bought a £60 pair of River Island shoes 2.5 years ago but only wore them 2/3 times at weddings etc (you could easily tell from soles etc wear was VERY minimal). The upper came away from the sole so sent them back to River Island customer services stating the 'Sales of Good Act' (as was then - now superseeded) which says that they should last for a 'reasonable amount of time' - and they happily sent me a cheque for the full amount.

Like I say, I'm not a flag burning socialist, and thats the first time I've pulled the Sales of Goods Act card out - but it worked nonetheless!

It's whether the retailer can be bothered to argue with you or not, they could easily drag it out for months on end asking for proof of defects on manufacturing = you will never get any help, some don't want the hassle of unhappy customers

I'm not being flippant, but what IS the gift approach? Quoting legislation? Being overly nice with call centre? Using the online chat service? Embarrassing them on facebook/twitter?

I have received my refurbished Dyson today - all good so far - when I have registered for the guarantee - the email they have sent says to 2021?

Mine arrived today too. Is the guarantee in the box?

I bought the dyson as a Christmas present for somebody. Is there a timescale that the guarantee needs filling in by? Will I need to fill it in before I give it to them at Christmas?

Mine arrived yesterday.

Hadn't told the Mrs it was a refurbished model. It looked 100% good as new - only clues to refurbished status were a removable sticker on outside box and the guarantee card/paperwork. So I basically got away with her being very happy with "new" dyson - while i dealt with paperwork and registering on dyson site.

Positives:

- Was expecting some (minor) signs of use but the one i received was indistinguishable from new. In fact I am pretty sure all parts were new (i.e. any used parts had been replaced).

- Works very well on first try.

- After registering online it now states in my dyson online account that guarantee expires on Nov 2021. (Though card included with machine clearly referred to only 2 yrs guarantee as its a refurbished model.)

Less positive:

- Limited selection of 3 tools to fit end of extension pole - none of which has a firm/stiff brush - found brush i wanted for £15 on dyson site but ordered same item for £6 on ebay.

- Nowhere to store tools in machine.

- After using extension pole/hose, I found it tricky to replace pole back into main handle where it is stored. On my model there is a red plastic part which has to slide down into top of handle and the fit is too tight - have to force it a bit.

Overall very happy with purchase.

Paperwork inside the box - can fill in online (need the paperwork as has a unique number on I think) - just asks for number and when you bought it - so don't think it is time limited.

I agree tools are a bit basic but can be fitted onto machine - instructions are in the book though took a bit of working out
