Yes, and mine broke 2 years 3 weeks later...wish I had paid a little more and bought new with a 5 year now
Yeah the 6 minute thing put me off last time this was on offer ... someone posted a link to a Vac which was about £50 and just as good as this but whose battery lasted longer (it was a while ago)!
Save some money and get a cheap one from Argos. It's not like you'd be doing your whole house with a handheld, much cheaper ones would do just as good a job at picking up your biscuit crumbs.
I was about to purchase this until I read the battery life, if you look at the new replacement model (DC34 i think) that only has 15 minutes life and 6 minutes if you switch on the tubo boost, lol,
Which review

"Launched in 2006, the DC16 was the first Dyson handheld vacuum cleaner. Although we haven't tested handheld vacuum cleaners for a while, retrospective comparisons suggest that the DC16 will certainly hold its weight.

It’s great at vacuuming hard surfaces and carpet, and gets tightly into corners. At 1.6kg it’s fairly light, and because it’s battery operated, you’re not restricted by a cord. You won’t be able to use it for prolonged periods of time, however, as regular charging is required - it runs for approximately six minutes per charge.

It has brush and nozzle attachments and the unit can be stored horizontally or vertically if you wall-mount the charging unit. In some tests, this handheld even outperformed some of the upright vacuum cleaners that we’ve tested in the past, which is no mean feat. Pet hair is likely to take longer to clear up than with an upright, however.

It’s worth noting that this handheld vac only comes with a two-year guarantee as standard, as opposed to the five-year guarantee offered with most Dyson upright and cylinder cleaners.

It’s also available in Car and Boat (with lighter socket charger) and Animal (with motorised brush) variants.

Pros: Great on hard surfaces and carpets, gets tightly into corners, light, and easy to use on stairs

Cons: Needs frequent recharging, takes time to pick up pet hair"
how come you can add a 1 year warranty for £10.99?
I've had one of these for about a year now and can't recommend it enough.

The battery life (or not) isn't an issue - its rare that you want to vacuum something with it with the motor running constantly for anywhere near 6 minutes. You aren't going to vacuum a whole room with it on your hands and knees (well you could try but you'd be doing it just to prove an awkward point).

I've had the dust buster style devices before and they were rubbish - this thing actually works and at this price its a steal. HOT
it's not a full size & it's a cordless, what do you expect for fricks sake! ....95% of the time the batt life has done us just fine , dog hair in corners etc mainly.

good kit had since it's initial release, still going strong blinding value, would consider one for upstairs (keep ours in the larder) strong motor, capable suck, iconic proven design.

if yours breaks, call customer service, dysone will typicallly go above & beyond warranty when asked, IF asked.
I've got the newer version of this and its a fantastic handheld vac! Highly recommended.
3 hour charge time for 6 minutes seems a little bit bizarre!

Looks handy and would be great for cleaing the car being cordless. Six minutes is way to short for me though, does anydoby know of any cheaper decents handhelds (or cheap car vacuums)?
Damn missed out again.

I was also considering this for my car. any good alternatives will be appreciated. (I have one of those crappy ones you get bought at Christmas and it seems to just make some noise without actually picking up anything)

I bought one when they first came out and they are brilliant, i say buy before you knock it. We have a cat and it picks up the hair with
ease, the best by far of hand held cleaners, battery life is no problem for what you want to do.
I was looking at buying a handheld a couple of weeks ago and considered the Dyson. Battery life was not that brilliant and reviews suggested that you might even have to buy a new battery after 18 months. In the end I got a mains powered one, at least they never run out of battery. Decided on the Black & Decker VH900 at about £50 from Argos. To be fair, it's pretty OK and comes with a range of tools that all fit into a 'PE kit type bag' and you can then hang the bag up on a hook. Not so easy with the Vac itself but I'm sure I'll sort something. Pretty powerful even if a little heavyish, but does all though awkward spaces and stairs easily. Should do the car well.

Blast!!!! now even cheaper at £40

To be honest I've never had a cordless Vac that has ever been any good and wasn't prepared to splash out on Dyson prices just to have it run out of power and have to wait 3 hours for a recharge.

I have the dyson dc34 animal handeld for my stairs and car and it's brilliant, beluve it or not the 6 mins on high power is easily enough for car or stairs. I would not be without it now,the kids use it for their rooms. Mine us great for pet hairs, great wee machine.

It does have a motorised attatchment for more power, not sure if the one in the post does??
Awesome price for a great handheld - 6 mins is not an issue for most uses. I got mine from ebay outlet two or so years ago and it works perfectly, use it every other day for odd jobs/spills.
Brilliant for the car. The best car Hoover you can get.

But it's a Dyson.
use it for work, it gets charged in my van. the amount of women that i get talking to when i pull out me dyson is incredible !!
never ran out on me and if iwas vacuuming for 6 minutes or more i would have made a fortune.
because of the power the runtime is not an issue.

+1 !!! Total agree (mind you have the purple one so probably has better battery life)
We have had one since 2006. Its seen us through 4 babies, including twins, 2 cats and 1 rabbit, several cars and unholy mess you could only dream of....and its still going strong. (and the caravan!)

Dyson are best on the market. And as the Americans say: period.
Yeah I agree with those above who say this is a great piece of kit. I got mine from Dyson refurb ebay store 3 years ago and it's used probably every second day and it's still going strong. 6mins is ample for nearly anything, can just get the car done with it including cleaning out the boot.

But it's a Dyson.

lol ok you got me there!

You keep believing that and you'll also keep Mr Dyson a very rich man.
