Looks like Currys blinked first with he looming Black Friday retail frenzy - Heat, good price for this

Damn, my dad bought the £299 with accessories deal I posted. I'll make sure he doesn't see this and buy him something nice x

What don't you get with this that you do get with the Absolute?

The absolute comes with the newer style brushbar as well as an additional hard floor cleaning head and better filtration. The motor, capacity, weight and runtime is the same.

But the real question is,do those different heads actually make a difference or just barely?

The Total Clean (currently £279 and exclusive to Currys) comes with both of those heads, the only significant benefit is if you're primarily hard floor and you're conscious of using a soft roller as opposed to a rotating brushbar as on these you can't turn the brushes off like you would on an upright. Ultimately the Animal provides good cleaning for both carpets and hard floors. There's very little stock of the Total Clean at the moment.

This or the total clean? My house is mostly carpet, few rooms with hard floor but mostly carpet. What's best?

I have been looking into these also, here is what I found -

V6 Animal: motorised head, Mini motorised tool

V6 Fluffy: motorised head, Soft roller cleaner head (for hard floors), Mini motorised tool

V6 Total Clean: comes with the 35w version of the direct drive floor head (claimed 75% better than the Animal version), Soft roller cleaner head (for hard floors), Mini motorised tool

V6 Absolute: comes with the newer 50w direct drive head (claimed 150% better than the Animal version), Hard floor cleaner head (not the same as the total clean one), Mini motorised tool and post motor filter captures allergens and bacteria as small as 0.3 microns.

Edited as the motorised heads are not suction powered as I was lead to believe but have a motor.

For the extra £40 I think it's worth getting the total, as the comment above stated, the motor is claimed to be 75% better but you also get the soft roller which is excellent for hard floors. Although as your house is mainly carpet it might be worth investing in the absolute (£100 dearer than the total) as it is meant to be the best for carpets.

Wrong. I have the V6 Animal, and neither heads are powered by suction, as they are motorised.

I recently splashed out on the absolute having cough a new house with mostly carpets. Some vinyl to the kitchen and bathrooms. All I can say is I'm astounded ! I'm house proud of the new place and had a little dyson that was wizzed round regularly after first use with the absolute I curls the believe the difference. I was amazed how much it picked up I mean amazed and it left a visible difference to carpets and rugs. In my humble opinion it's worth every penny and then some. The Hoover did recently start to cut out which gout me worried and searching forums but a call to dyson taught me that when the filter clogs up despite looking clean it needs a wash as it needs a clean filter for the power to the head. 24hrs later and boom ! You could eat your dinner off the carpet though I'd prefer it if you didn't.
In short the extra power to the cleaner for the money is worth it in the short and long term

How does this compare to the DC59 Animal thats on sale on the Dyson eBay outlet for £169.99? Wondering whether there's much difference between that and this one?

Same price at John Lewis today

hot went for total at pc world. argos has fluffy 279 which is easier for me to collect but went for total as you guys say stronger motor. dyson website was down so couldn't compare specs easily!!!

Looks like you can now get 12% cashback with quidco as long as this is classed as floor care

The Dyson absolute and hot/cold fan can be bought from Dyson site for £499 combined, saving £350 which isn't bad if you were after both.

The DC59 Animal and the V6 Animal are exactly the same, and share all parts and attachments.
However, the one on eBay would be refurbished partially, so likely to have a few scratches and will only have 1 year warranty

Thanks - yes thats what it seems to me. Just bought the one on eBay - from the reviews I read most of them are excess stock that they have to get rid of now the DC59 Animal is no longer sold officially from Dyson. 1 Year warranty. Lets see when I get it

I bought a refurbished DC59 Animal from the eBay Dyson store a few weeks ago, and it was not new. Most parts were new, but not the motor unit and cyclone unit (scratches). There was an issue with it, so they sent some parts first (very quickly), and when it didn't fix the issue, they sent a brand new V6 Animal instead (with 2 year warranty), as they had no new DC59 in stock.

Edited by: "tomtomato" 28th Nov 2015

Thanks for the info - thats good to hear at least about their customer service to fix the issue. What was the issue you had with it just so I know?

You would be much better off buying the total clean. The only reason to buy the absolute would be if you have allergy's

I thought the absolute was more powerful though? We have 2 cats with a mix of carpet and hard floor so wondering which to go for and whether the extra power of the absolute makes it a better choice. Prefer cordless because we have limited space.

When you compare the features of both models there are two differences, absolute has an air filter and the hard floor heads are different

http://www.dyson.co.uk/vacuum-cleaners/cordless/dyson-v6/dyson-v6-absolute.aspx

The confusing part is that one claims to be 75% and 150% more powerful than the animal. Personally I think it is a mistake. If you read the below review it will tell you that the absolute is excellent on carpets but loses points on hard floors compared with the 'fluffy'. The total has the same head for carpets as the absolute and the same head for hard floors as the fluffy, you are getting the best of both worlds.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/dyson-v6-absolute-review

Dyson claims the original price of the total to be £430 which is only £20 than the absolute, I believe this to be down to the fact the absolute has an air filter but at the same time the head for hard floors is worse.

At the end of the day they are both great but I would pick the total for two reasons 1)better for hard floors 2) cheaper

Hope this makes sense
Edited by: "madbull" 28th Nov 2015

The Absolute is the only one to have the 50w direct drive head. Other models don't have the direct drive head, or a less powerful direct drive one (35w). So yes, the Absolute is the best model for carpets and also has the HEPA filter.

Apart from the different floor heads, all V6 have the same suction power otherwise.

I have ordered from the eBay Dyson shop a few times, and also direct from Dyson, and their customer service is excellent. The model I had received was not just box open/return or demo, but had been well used (cyclone and motor parts). After one attempt to fix it, they collected the old one and gave a brand new one at the same time.

I had a feeling that would happen as once I read the terms it said something about it not working with 'other offers'. I also noticed that the 12% on floorcare ended the day that all the prices went up. I tried to buy it from Dyson for £269 but there system kept declining my card, was hoping that currys would pay out but can bet my bottom dollar that they don't.

Nothing in NE Scotland ... chasing the Golden Fleece once again.

Voted cold, as you can get the superior Absolute model for an equivalent price, new. The Absolute has a better direct drive motorhead for carpets (50w)
