Same deal as Currys and CPW but with a free screen protector worth like £10.

Good price... Shame it's such a crap product...

Yeh these got slated

lol how is it crap

I got one on the CPW deal posted before Christmas, and if you only want it for media/web stuff - or you don't mind getting stuck in and doing a bit of fiddling around to get Android apps working, it's a quality, well built piece of kit. Well worth £169.

Don't think RIM can afford to sell them like the hp touchpad

It says a lot that these have dropped so much in price yet they're still not selling out.

Looking through the customer reviews of this product it seems that most people are clinging onto the knowledge that Blackberry will be enabling Android apps to run with the new update; however this is NOT as great as people think. For one, a huge number of apps will NOT be supported - namely ones that use C2DM, so that rules out Facebook For Android, Twitter, Whatsapp, Words With Friends and tens of thousands of other apps. For two there will be no Android Market, so apps will have to be sideloaded after downloading them from the net. This creates a problem with purchased apps and games as it means you'll either have to use illegally pirated games and apps or simply be without these too. The fragmentation within Android creates app compatibility issues as it is and I doubt this ability to sideload Android will be exempt from this issue; in fact I suspect that it will be MORE susceptible.

I had this device when Currys were offering it for £249 with £100 Quidco cashback but I eventually returned it. As a piece of hardware it is beautiful. It is solidly constructed, the screen is lovely, the speakers are the best I've ever heard on a tablet and in fairness it oozes quality. Sadly this is not evident in the apps from within Blackberry World, nor even things such as the browser, which is often sluggish and clunky.

I can forsee Blackberry dropping this product like a hot pan after they release the next update. It is making them only losses and so is not cost-effective to continue to develop. The device bootloader is locked down so tightly that there is no chance of Android ever being ported to it, the supposedly world-changing Android app support is a load of cobblers and, basically, this device is dead in the water.

It is on that basis that I deem this deal to be cold.

I'd have to agree. Just been playing around with one and it's great. Sure there are a few things that could have been improved but for internet and watching vids on the go it's an absolute steal at this price.

I've been mulling this one over for a few weeks, I don't need loads of apps, I use the internet to surf 95% of the time, I have a Blackberry phone which will enable the email side of things..... It's getting slated for the lack of apps from RIM, BUT should I go for it for what I've stated above?? ie: would it suit?? everyone says it's a good quality unit etc, seems a great price!

I had an iPad 2 and sold it because i was only using it for browsing/email etc. Got one of these coming so hoping it will meet my needs. Shame i spent a fortune on Apples appstore before i realised i didn't need all the cack

+1 on that. Has anyone seen the HD Demo video playing on this - the screen is fantastic! Check it out if you happen to nip in one of the electronics stores with demo units.

awesome deal

Gutted that I missed the HTC flyer deal that was on here over Xmas, now that was a deal and they all sold out unlike these which are still available. There are people on ebay listing lots of 10/20 of the flyers, they have all sold at £250 having cost just £179.

wasnt it this price plus a £50 voucher from currys?

Voted hot, but £130 is the price I think this should be.

I would buy at £130.

got one and it was so good i bought another. ignore the retards who know nothing except what they read from other retards online.

I'm running facebook for android now on my playbook. Whatsapp also works, and many have gotten market to work. Even if the market doesn't work, I can (and have) taken apps from my phone and converted them to bar, then sideloaded them. How is that illegal?

I think you need to check your facts before posting.

I agree with all the positive comments, bought one yesterday from Currys and with very little persuasion they gave me £20 off a leather cover/case as well - fantastic piece of kit, much better than I had imagined, an absolute bargain at this price...it's like getting a BMW for the price of a VW

THIS IS AMAZIN I LOVE IT AND UPDATE IN FEB FOR ANDROID

ONLY REAOSN THIS ISNT SELLING OUT IS BECAUSE EVERYONE WANTS THE 32GIG VERSON FOR £199 WHICH IS SOLD OUT ALMOST EVERYWHERE

I have one of these (from the PC World Deal) and am impressed by the screen resolution, speaker sound quality and the responsiveness of the OS. Yes maybe some app are missing (DLNA/UPNP connectivity) but for browsing / film watching / music listening its a fantastic bit of kit that will kick an Android tablets a$$.

£5 Qudico for Blackberry Playbook (16GB models only) on e2save

So you're telling me these apps work with C2DM? Not much point using WhatsApp if you have to open the app to see notifications. That's what I meant. Same applies to Facebook. The built in one is as good but for the lack of notifications; being able to receive them via a sideloaded Android app would make it a step up. As far as I have read and understood there is no C2DM support within the Blackberry java runtime environment as this uses Google's servers.

Got my wife one for browsing, putting photos etc onto and i have to say its a good piece of kit, if you don't mind the lack of apps. Very good screen for iplayer etc. I would recommend.

It makes me laugh these people slating the playbook.

Has anyone ever seen someone slate the playbook for a valid reason other than 'oh there not sold out so it must be a crap deal'

The screen resolution is great
the design is stylish
the battery is excellent

Do you mean we have then a proper android OS running on the playbook or is it some kind of emulator? I guess the biggest problem is that it is not extensible with a memory card, else it would be a good piece of gadget!

Definite yes! Build quality seems superb and it's great for internet browsing. I played around with my mums ipad and the apps were fun but like you I found that most of the time I was just surfing the net which this is perfect for.

I know this is from a different country but worth a read as it may apply to the UK as well. It suggests you may wanna order now...you can always return it if you change your mind!

I dont think it will be the emulator in feb as i beleive the android emulator is out right now....

Firstly these are great devices.

Secondly a screen protector is pointless, it has a lovely gorilla glass screen!..

But heat for pointing out another place it can be had for this price!..

good tab

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago under the Currys deal. I can say I'm really happy with it. It works great with my Curve. Screen is fantastic and a good size. Its very well built and perfect for travelling etc. I love the navigation. I just wanted a device for browsing the web, accessing emails and such things as Excel and Word and this device is perfect for all these things. The only downside (and this is a minor one for me) is the limited number of apps. I can highly recommend it at this price.

I got one recently too at £169 from Currys (with the £50 voucher to use in March). Really really happy with it for internet browsing, playing iplayer, facebook, twitter, web email etc. (I also downloaded BB bridge on to my BB 9800 mobile and have synced the two for email, bbm, calendar management etc). There's no denying the lack of apps from RIM for it (wish it had skype or msn messenger but I can live without those as I have them on my BB mobile) but it is a quality piece of kit for this price.
