Lol you beat me to it. I prefer to use the word woefully slow...
I put play store and a custom launcher it made it slightly easier to use
What's a good cheap alternative that'll fit in a pocket (to be used mainly as an e-reader)?
My 2.5 and 5.5 year old love their fire tablets (when they are allowed to use them of course!). We have the 'fire kids' sub as it was free with the kids version of tablet. Sure its not fast but plenty good enough for kids to have a bit of fun. Definitely worth getting the kids version though as anything breaks or they chuck it down the loo we'll replace it warranty, kid friendly case and kids subscription make it worth double the price.
The 8inch tablet is currently £45 at amazon. It doesn't sound like much of an increase but there's a big difference in size, speed and battery life between the two tablets.
If you are thinking of buying this read the comments from Amazons website. There's an awful lot of disgruntled buyers out there.
The OS is absolutely horiffic, not user friendly at all.

Right mess.

Sorry im not sure you could use this as an ereader as you could get various book apps on it but not sure of alternatives maybe ebay might be a good bet:)

We just have the 7" fire tablet 'kids edition'. Its £55 at argos currently but as mentioned you get the 'they break it we replace it' warrenty, kid friendly case and a years subscription to fire kids which is in total well worth £25 extra. Our 5 and half year old loves it. Just remember you'll need to pay for the fire kids sub after a year. I think its £20 but for that you get pretty much unlimited kids apps and tv shows. In kids mode you get some youtube access but its very limited so might not be quite what you want. These do not take a sim card (You can download apps/tv shows to it and use it in offline mode for a few days before you need to reactivate the fire kids content).

The trouble is that people often expect Galaxy or iPad speeds and ease for that £30, not £2-300...

It's a simple tablet, my missus has one with Readly, Scribd and Kindle on it, that's all it's for and works fine... A £2-300 tablet would be a waste really..

Totally disagree. What else will run youtube, Netflix etc quite reliably for that price. I've had a few cheap generic android tablets for similar price and they struggle to even get on an app store after a few months. Yes it is slow but once you have started a video it runs quite well.

Also owned many tablets and with standard install this is just a lesson in patience and disappointment. Keep a look out and 50 quid will get you a decent condition ipad mini 2. I agree there is nothing at new retail price that compares to this and that is because there is nothing in this bracket for a reason. Just being cheap does not make it good. Personally would just save to get one worth having, fire 10 is a good candidate for rooting and vanilla android, at which point it becomes a joy to use
Great deal - thumbs up from me
