Early upgrade offer for the iPhone 4 (3gs/3g pay monthly customers)

Found 10th Jun 2010
£20 FOR EACH MONTH REMAINING IN YOUR CONTRACT!

Here's the offer:

Instead of paying off your remaining contract in full, simply pay a one-off charge equal to £20 for each full month left on your contract. This reduced cost offer cannot be combined with any early upgrade eligibility you may have as part of O2 Priority List.

A few rules before you can take advantage of the offer. You have to:

1. Have paid your Early Upgrade Offer charge;
2. Sign up for a new 18 or 24 month minimum term Pay Monthly or 24 month Business airtime contract with O2 with an iPhone at the normal price for that phone and on our iPhone tariffs; and
3. Agree that you won't have a change of mind period and won't be able to go back to your old tariff.

(Sorry if the £20 in the deal makes it look better than it is but it could be £20 for some people and could be over £300 for others)

Yeah I saw this ion the O2 website, ive got an old 8gb 3g and I can sell it for about £150 on mazuma, my cost for the iphone 4 is £200 from O2 so just got £50 to pay, all depends on what tarrifs are available though, will wait if they want eye gouging prices.

Works out at £320 for me which is abit poo, but i am on a 24 month contract and i havent been on it long.
BUT i can get about £300 for my 3gs making it a more or less free upgrade (plus another 24 months of a contract)

This was posted yesterday.

Good info, Cheers...

Remember though, this is just buying you out of your old contract.....you will still have to pay for the phone and at the moment no one knows what that will be, nor what contracts are going to be offered. My guess is that the 32GB will set you back £250 on a 24 month (£35 a month contract).

Anybody know a number i can ring to find out when i can upgrade?

How do you know the cost for you is £200? The prices and tariff's ain't been released yet.

I'd get £257 back for mine, have 11 months left on contract, but on a silver customer tariff (£45 but pay £31 through O2 friends & family) so subtract 1 months. = £200.

Just need to find out the unit costs - I paid £96 for my 32gb 3GS on launch and got £60 cashback on that.

32gb? 16gb? where??

The O2 offer states that it can't be used in conjunction with the priority early upgrade so you'd still have to pay the full 11 months at 320 per mont.

I've got 12 months left on my 3GS contract, still not sure whether I should upgrade or hold fire until the end of my contract.

16GB 3GS
Ebay...... or O2 will give me over £250, and another phone recycle place offered me £265.

So it'll cost me around £205 to get out of the 13 months left on my contract and they claim I would get £235 for my 3GS 16GB handset.

That means I'm about £30 up until I have to pay a fortune for the new handset and how much extra each month as I'm sure the tariffs will be going up (I'm currently on £35 a month and never go above that).

Think I'll hold off until more details come out.

On the basis of the epic fail at the keynote speech when the iPhone 4 was launched, it looks like you might be better holding on to your 3G/3GS, at least if you want to be able to use wi-fi within a 100m radius of another computer!

I'm in the same boat.

But TBH I think I can wait until next summer when prices will be much lower.

wait for the day of the month your contract expires (eg if 28 November, wait till 28 June), not launch day... and save a further £20.
NB not later than 24 July

im on a business contract with 13 months left, i was told on getting the contract that i would get a free upgrade after 12 months, well i cant see that happening, instore there telling me ill be able to get a free upgrade to a lower priced phone such as an htc but will have to pay for the iphone 4, theirs no way on earth im going to pay 13 months x 20 quid then 200 plus for the phone.

probably a new iphone would be released by then and you'll be wanting that instead of the 4.

there is a page on the O2 website..... hold on let me see if I can find the link, be easier then.....

shop.o2.co.uk/new…tml

you put in your contract renewal date and it will tell you how much it will cost to get out of it early.

Congratulations! No wait... doesnt the DEAL button take you to that webspage?
Oh yes... yes it does

just spoke to o2 and they now tell me if i wish to use my upgrade (supposedly free as im a business user) that i will then have 3 years left on my contract, i was told different when i signed up and also instore recently. So it appears ive been lied to yet again by hight street retailers - scum.

Any idea what the new iphone will cost on contract?

I got my 32gb 3GS free on an upgrade in December, £240 to buy out contract but surely id have some left over if i sold it to put to new one?

so they now limit the data use ?
i swear my current contract is unlimited data? answered here techwatch.co.uk/201…ta/

so all in they will want me to extend contract by another 2 years, drop my monthly limit of data, the more i look into it the worse it gets!
o2 u are scum.

do you think its best to cash in iPhone 3G now before the price starts dropping once the iPhone 4 actually comes out ?

the 3g will undoubtably take a major price drop, the 3gs a moderate 1, either way i think were all getting suckered in.

sell sell sell!
then buy apple shares
next year sell them and you can buy an iSland

really tho, just get the 3GS reconditioned phone for free by calling them like i did. then sell it next june.
do you really need the iphone 4 at these extortionate prices?

Yup this isn't good, unlimited data plan will be no longer, data caps will be used over 3G networks.

Maybe I'll stay with my 3GS and unlimited data contract.

im thinking of staying with the 3gs, i swear when i signed my contract, i was told free upgrade after 12 months and no extension of contract, now what im being told is possible charge for phone and 2 year extension, so in total 3 years left, any previous upgraders out their from the 3g to 3gs on a business contract?, ant the tariff drops from 600 mins to 300 as well btw.

yep it seemed like a good deal at first but i think your all correct.
A crap new contract. charges for the phone and another 24 months of fun woth o2.

Ill stick with my 3GS and my staff tariff and upgrade it to iOS4 on the 24th to gain the new operating features!

you will get more for your iphone on ebay.....just remember to send it with enough insurance...recorded 1st £250 comp or special delivery next day with £500 comp may be cheaper

well, strictly speaking if get a new phone you are taking a new contract.....if you keep your old phone you can stay on your old tarrif and get unlimited data.....theyd have to do that as they cant change the terms of the contract mid term otherwise that would be an unfair contract because you havent agreed to it (if it went to court they would 100% lose)
