Eastpak are a high quality luggage manufacturer. They offer a 30 year guarantee on defects in materials and workmanship. However, often their bags for the US market are too big to use as a carry on bag for Ryanair and Germanwings.

The Eastpak Spin S is small enough (Height: 52cm (55cm including wheels), Width: 35cm, Depth: 20cm. Volume: 32L) to pass all the main budget airlines. It weighs 2.24kg, so you can still carry some stuff in it and get under a 8kg GermanWings weight limit.

Easyjet doesn't have a weight limit, and you could end up with a 15kg bag, in which case its nice to have wheels.

Wheels are nice to have on smooth surfaces. They are a bit annoying on bumpy surfaces. They are useless on stairs, mud, or grass, when backpack straps are the best.

This bag has main handles that are long enough so that you can use them as backpack straps. I have used them like this to walk a couple of miles, but its not something to use for long distances. The bag needs to be designed so that the backpack straps don't get in the way when it’s a trolley bag, and so the wheels don't get your clothes dirty when you're carrying it on your back.

It has a U-zip opening, a zipped pockets on the front and side, with a small zipped pocket on the inside. I don't like bags with thousands of pockets, as I then have to search through all of them to find things.

Amazon have this bag in various colours. With a camouflage pattern, it is £17 (if you select Supersaver delivery).

I bought one of these in blue a few weeks ago (the Amazon review is mine) for £33. I have also added straps from a proper backpack, which is much more comfortable.

This is a top quality bag, for a bargain price. The Camo pattern isn't great for business use, but if you don't mind that, then I can highly recommend it.

When you click on the link, you need to then click on the Camo-coloured bag (2nd from the right at the moment), and select "Uni" as the size. This then shows the price as £17

I'm tempted by that. I don't really use the holdall straps for the Spins bag, and I would like to have the compression straps on the side.

One problem is that the Transfer S is 23cm deep, which is too big for the Ryanair limits. There are adjusters so you could reduce the size a bit and get it under the limit, but if you fill the bag, you might find that you get charged to put the bag in the hold.

Another is that the base of the Transfer is soft, and one of the Amazon reviews says that it falls over easily. The Spins bag has a fairly stiff base for the wheels and a plastic bar, so the bag stands up on its own.
