Does anyone know if the Chromecast will enable the Smart TVs that used to …Does anyone know if the Chromecast will enable the Smart TVs that used to until receive iPlayer as standard that now can't receive iPlayer due to the BBC updating iPlayer resulting in 100s of first generation TVs(Samsung Sony LG Phillips etc) No longer being able to use the iPlayer built in App...any help Appreciated...

Pardon? If you're asking "Does the Chromcast still work with BBC iPlayer?", then the answer is yes. A quick google would have told you that.If you're asking "Will the Chromecast magically make my Smart TV's iPlayer app work again?", the answer is no.

AO look like a strong contender against Amazon to price match VERY quickly.

I just purchased this TV from RicherSounds for the same price but I get 6 years warranty.

Chromecast is 20gbp, not 19.

anyone know if the Fire stick remote can be paired with an echo dot?

dont forget your 8X Nectar points when you spend over a tenner too :-)

The Samsung TV is £349 on Richer Sounds with 6 year guarantee.

That happened to my Samsung smart tv. I lost Iplayer, Youtube, ITV player and other catch up stuff. Basically just a normal freeview tv now .

Are all TV manufacturer's guilty of this? Or is Samsung more guilty than Sony? I have seen other posts on here with people saying that Sony is notorious for doing this a year or so after a model comes out.

I have not owned a Sony smart TV but I had a Sony Vaio many years back and 12 months after I bought the model when it had just come out they just stopped all driver support for it.

Nope, you cannot pair it with any echo devices. There is a seperate remote for echo devices, sold seperately

I use a Chromecast plugged into my telly and cast iPlayer from my mobile phone. It works really well and is my preferred method of watching BBC with iplayer. Much quicker than the Virgin Media tivo box iplayer app.

Yes. Use any Chromecast compatible device (tablet / phone / pc with browser extension etc..) and you can stream iPlayer / Netflix / YouTube / Google Movies etc
.. content. Power from the TV USB port to avoid another mains charger...

I think they are as bad as each other. I stopped buying Sony after a tablet i brought only had one firmware update in the 3 years i had it from new and that update was about 3 months after i brought it. I have always brought Samsung Tvs and this is the first time this has happened when i connected to the internet to watch Iplayer and an update removed them all. I wouldn't mind but the Tv is only 3 years old. I will be rethinking what make Tv i go for in the future. I believe its just a scam to get you to buy a new device

Yes, I have long worried that the new operating systems on these smart TV's are just a means to get people to far more frequently update their TV's.

In the past you could buy a TV and it would last 10 years no problem but now these new flat panels seem to have a shorter and shorter life span. It is what really puts me off buying one - but I will have to eventually - and certainly puts me off buying an expensive one.

All a manufacturer has to do now is to not update the firmware, OS or apps and your TV loses a load of functionality or, worse, they do something to stop that functionality such as you experienced.

Peeps who want a constantly updated first rate iPlayer and ITV, C4 and C5 catchup should take a look at the grossly underrated YouView boxes. You can pick them up for £20 (BT/Humax is best) and they series record, so you don't have to worry a show will disappear after 28 days.

Catchup navigation is a breeze - just scroll backwards in the EPG. No YouTube, but that's easily cast from a tablet.

If it is only a three year old model it should still have all of the stuff.
My H (2014) model TV and H model BlueRay player are still working, though a new iPlayer to the BlueRay is terrible and slow.
What model year is yours (the letter in the middle)

Reset the Smart Hub and Reset the TV. See if that helps.

The 6400 is £399 at RGB Direct currently with the £50 off voucher next to the TV. As it is a physical store JL will price match it. You just have to submit a request to their CS on the homepage through the 'Never Knowingly Undersold' link. I have got mine in less than 24 hrs.

Yes I know that bud but you quoted £30.. AND THAT'S £50..WHICH ISN'T AN ODD FIVER here and there so I wanted to know how to get it for £380

No worries you just typo'd but @ £30 extra I was having the 6400...at £50 I was puzzling yay or nay ...

But I didn't puzzle too long ,) went to richest and they wouldn't play ball at all as others have said. ..but after a bit of persuasion I got JL to price match hope I made the right choice now

But miffed despite identical offers JL aren't part of the sound bar deal that samsung are running so missed out on that for my son as I've got 5.1 anyway. Would have picked up the denim 4200amp if there was some leeway on that but it's still stagnant at 400 where if dropped to around easter I think it was.. that and a closer look revealed its but ugly on the front too lol

Thanks OP. Found the Dyson V6 Total Clean hidden in this thread. Deserves a thread on it's own imo.
