16.99 for the charger and comes with 4 AA and 4 AAA, not the cheapest its ever been (£15.99 last week!) but needed some batteries. Still not a bad deal i don't think.

AFAIK, sadly not that smart, sadly: only charges/monitors in pairs. Suspicions first aroused when it said it stops charging at 3.4V (i.e. 1.7V each cell.) That doesn't sound too big a deal except that if there's any differences between the batteries (i.e. you've used one on it's own or split or mixed the pairs up at some point or just manufacturing differences) then it means you'll potentially end up overcharging and damaging one of the batteries each time. Most smart chargers monitor and charge each cell independently, for good reason.

Yeah, says: "How many batteries can be charged at a time: 2/4/6/8 AA or AAA batteries together at a time, need to charge batteries in pairs, do not charge uneven amount of batteries".

Plus it switches to trickle charge after it's done, so you'll also overcharge the batteries if you don't remove them within a couple of hours of the light changing colour.

I don't suppose you (or anyone) could point me in the direction of a charger without all the flaws you pointed out? I'm getting desperate for a charger that can handle odd numbers of AAA cells, and that can soft charge/recondition. My old Maha 8 cell charger started refusing to work with AAAs a few months back, after about one and a half decades of service.

I've not followed 8-way ones at all, unfortunately, and am a bit out of date on the rest too! Still using an old IQ328 but would like to replace that with a more reliable (at lower currents) end of charge detection.

You could have a look at Nitecore chargers: nitecore.co.uk/Sho…tml
Banggood/Gearbest might have better pricing.

The i2 and i4 have had good reviews (& handle C and D batteries which is a bonus) but I haven't seen any tests on the i8. Nitecore seem to be pretty consistent generally, unlike a lot of brands.

Cheers guys. Just ordered the 4 cell Nitecore. Looks like it will do everything I need and more, so very happy!

It has been at this price for a fair few months. Dropped to 14.something during black Friday
