With Echo Connect and a compatible Alexa-enabled device, you can ask Alexa to call anyone using your home phone service—all you have to do is ask. Echo Connect uses your home phone number, whether landline or VoIP, so friends and family will still recognise the call. Answer your home phone on your Echo hands-free so you can easily talk to anyone hands-free when you’re busy making dinner or away from the phone.

With the Alexa App, the contacts on your smartphone stay in sync with Alexa, so you never have to look up a number stored on your phone. You can also add your contacts on alexa.amazon.co.uk. When you receive a call from someone in your contact list, Alexa will announce who is calling.

Alexa, call Mum.

Echo Connect works with these Alexa-enabled devices

Make and receive home phone calls using Echo Plus (all gen.), Echo Dot (all gen.), Echo Show (all gen.), Echo Spot or Amazon Echo with Echo Connect and your home phone service.

Is this not about the land line?

What is this 'land line', of which you speak I vaguely remember them mentioned in the history books of old...

These are not that great. I bought one for my mother who is bed bound and thought with her other intergrated Alexa devices (lights etc) this would be a good idea for her. After initial setup I was impressed and bought myself one as well. However on both units, The phone and wifi connection keep dropping and it needed rebooting. Once it refused to reconnect so I had to phone Amazon technical support who had no idea what it's problem was, and replaced it, but that one also is glitchy. It's not my wifi as all other devices are fine. I think it is just an issue with these echo connects.
Vodafone mobile subscribers don't need these, Vodafone is now a service on Alexa.

I know you can’t receive calls but you can make free calls with a Google Home or Mini. No extra equipment required.

I love that Amazon are bringing out all these additional things, but none of them work with Sonos Ones. I have 4, and they sound great, so I'm not replacing them with inferior Amazon Echos.
Does anyone have any sort of workaround for using these sort of devices with Sonos Ones?

It's that thing I can't get rid of and still have broadband.

Yeah you are right, I applied my own bias to use mobile instead of landline (no connection fee, evening rates etc that now exists for landline calls)
