This is bit crafty but works well, and this is how.

1 - Order one White dot and 2 Black dots. Enter code DOT3PACK at checkout. Makes it 3 for 2 ie. £99.98 total

2 - Black dot are currently OOS until 29th jan. So the white one will be dispatched first.

3 - Cancel order for black dots once you get dispatch email for White ones.

4 - Amazon only charges on dispatch so you’ll only get charged for one white dot from total of £99.98 order = £33.32.

5 - Enjoy...

Because - Once you Dot you can't stop.

Totally agree, why waste it on an Echo dot.

I kinda doubt the code DOT3PACK works on anything else?
Just be careful as Amazon can take a dim view if you do things like this a lot.

Not strictly true. You can always spend about three minutes setting up a new account and you'll also get the 30 day Prime trial.

Have you tried this? Won't they just adjust price.

Friend of mine has ordered yesterday, this has been shared on other social sites. The way amazon works, I’m sure this works

Besides, the dot is so last year, plenty of better home spy kit around

I think you’ve to wait until get dispatch email, but if anyone else can confirm it still doesn’t work I’m happy to expire this.
Surely you will be charged the full amount once the white one has been dispatched? They won’t take 33.32?
Worth a try. I just ordered my three.

What are you basing that statement on? (Genuine question)
Has this worked for anyone
Gave it a try, will just return if not.

I can't see why it wouldn't unless of course the black comes into stock unexpectedly quickly but then you just get 3 dots. Oh no!

Nice one.
Was just about to try this when I thought I would read the post again and have realised that we have no idea if this does actually work. I would have thought Amazon would charge you full price for the white one sent being as you've cancelled the rest of the order that makes up the deal. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks, OP! Giving it a go, but won't vote until confirmed that it works.

Cheers!

What evidence do you have of the dim view?
Terms & Conditions: Amazon Echo Dot - Buy 3 for the price of 2.... “The 3 Echo Dot must be purchased in a single order and delivered at the same speed to a single address”.
Can anyone confirm that this works before I go ahead? Thanks

No they only charge for what they dispatch. I purchase Phillips 3 for 2. Two weren’t in stock. They charged for the one dispatched then charged for the other two when they received stock and dispatched them.
Well I've given it a try and I've had an email saying all 3 will arrive together early Feb. I'll give it to the end of the day to see if the white one does get sent early otherwise I'll have to cancel. Will keep you informed.
Doesn't work. I ordered the 3 with the code, then after the dispatch notice for the white dot I tried to cancel the out of stock black dots. It then says:

Your item has not been cancelled
Because this item was part of a multi-item promotion, it cannot be cancelled at this time. Please contact Customer Service for assistance.

Oh well still a good price per one I guess

Why? Amazon have been happy to sell these as low as £34.99 themselves in the past, and at a price a pound or so below that I doubt they're making any loss.

Obviously they don't want to keep it at the lower price all year round, but if a small minority find a way to get it at a price they're willing to sell it at anyway I doubt they care - still shifting units and at a price they're happy with.

Back in 2016 there was a news story about a chap who had bought 343 items from Amazon since 2014. But after sending 37 back he was blocked from using it and couldn't reclaim his credit balance. They obviously keep a track on what you cancel / return and I guess it depends on how often you do it as to whether you get blocked.
Here is the message I got when I tried to cancel after receiving the dispatch email confirmation:
'' .....
Your item has not been cancelled
Because this item was part of a multi-item promotion, it cannot be cancelled at this time. Please contact Customer Service for assistance
.... ''

Any idea what to do next ?

From that article:

The company received:

  • 1,618 subpoenas, of which the company fully complied with 42 percent;
  • 229 search warrants, of which the company fully complied with 44 percent;
  • 89 other court orders, of which the company fully complied with 52 percent.

So in other words, they supplied less than half of the data that was demanded through legal mechanisms (presumably they argued that the rest were not valid requests in some way). Seems reasonable to me. I would suggest that if you are likely to being asking Alexa for stuff that law enforcement agencies are interested in, you probably shouldn't be using such a device at all.
Expire this gash...... oh look...a Unicorn ...
I ordered 1 white and 2 black
The white was delivered today and charged at the reduced price of £33.32

You are unable to cancel the order for the black ones in your orders as it is part of a multi order promotion.

This leaves you with 3 choices
You can try customer service and see if they are willing to cancel the black ones, return the white ones or keep all 3
I asked cs nicely and they did indeed cancel the order for the black ones.
I don't know if the next person will be so lucky.
I also don't know if I will now be on the Amazon naughty list

I think the issue with these devices is, they're always listening, you don't have to directly ask the device anything for it to register. Maybe they don't? I'm not trying to be that guy, but I have no use for these devices and I don't like they idea that they 'could' be listening.
Jinkz1 h, 0 m ago

Always listening, but not always recording. Only stuff you say after "Alexa" is sent to Amazon, the rest is immediately forgotten. So there's no way the FBI can subpoena your everyday conversations. There's doubtless a way to hack them to record all the time, but that's true of your webcam, your laptop's microphone and your mobile phone.

I managed cancelling by phoning customer services - without any questions asked.
Why is this expired? It still works!

I'm trying to apply the £10 BIGTHANKS discount but doesn't seem to work though.
