Still waiting for mine 6 months on

SWALEC do them (for Welsh customers but they are part of a larger company). I signed up to their Better Plan approx. 2wks ago, doesnt cost any extra but you sign up with them for an extra 12mths (no problem for me) and if you make certain % savings on your energy consumption you get money back, plus you get an upgraded Monitor for free - mine arrived on Monday and it's great, and I just signed up for the free 3yr Warranty on it too!

What's the point of them? If you know the wattage of the appliance, it isn't rocket science to know how much electricity it's using ----- Oh, I forgot ---- they're for morons who think an immersion heater uses slightly less power than a 150W bulb

depends on what the wattage of the heater is, if its less than 150W, then they're right

Great price

Looks like a deal to me!

Seems like a terrible way to save the environment by making more gadgets.

If you don't need it, turn it off. Just saved you 2.50 sirs.

It's not always that simple. Some appliances like PC's, fridge freezers use a variable amount of power over time, even immersion heaters as they're not switched on all the time.

exactly. methinks it is jhw being the idiot for not realising this :whistling:

Do you just plug it in and it tells you how many watts an item uses or is it more complexed to set up? (ie with some devices, you need to find out the cost of electricity units and key it in etc)

I much prefer the "whole house" versions e.g. OWL

Seeing your house use up 800W all the time makes you find out which plugs are using it up...

well, I used one of these around the house a couple of years ago and it's saved me a fortune.
after plugging it into the fridge for a week I worked out that the fridge was costing me about £140 a year to run. Since bought a new efficient fridge and It's down to about £30 a year. Massive savings to be made and not always as simple as looking at the wattage.

These are great for checking out the standby power used by electrical items too. Rule of thumb...every Watt that is on constantly costs you about £1 per year.
