Reviews aren't amazing. Haven't tried one myself, but if you want the real deal, and don't want to break the bank, go for the Xiaomi Mi Robot, but the first generation. Don't go for the 2nd generation as it pretty much just adds the mopping functionality which honestly is rubbish. The good thing about the Xiaomis is the way they navigate, mapping your room/house which makes a world of difference in comparison to other models who just seem to bump around aimlessly. Once the Xiaomi has mapped your room/room, cleaning time is greatly reduced as he knows exactly where he is going.

Ive had one of these for a month and so far so good. It doesn’t have mapping technology but whatever algorithm it’s following is very effective as it seems to get around all areas of the room pretty quickly, and it’s ubelievable how much dust it picks up. Time will tell how long it lasts - I bought this to determine whether a robot vac is good for me and I’ve determined it definitely is - when this one gives up the ghost I’ll be buying a mapping one.

Totally disagree...owned this for a year already and it's amazing. We have vinyl flooring whole downstairs and its excellent at keeping it clean with 2 small children around. Get home from work and its spotless. Love it.

I've also got one of these, I've had it since May and I agree, it's pretty unbelievable how much it picks up. It does move around randomly but it seems to pick up a lot of dust, the bin is pretty much full and we run it 2 or 3 times a week. The way I look at it is dust doesn't cover all surfaces evenly so if it doesn't matter, it fills the bin up and the floors look clearer. This is my upstairs one, downstairs I have a ziglint D5, I picked it up on a bit of a misprice for £49 rather than about £180 - this has mapping but its terrible, on carpet it can spend 10 minutes going back and forth on the same path and sometimes it doesn't enter a room at all. It's better on hard floors but I still prefer the deebot. So, I'd say cheaper ones are better without mapping at all, if you want mapping you'll need to spend £300+. I really rate the deebot, I think it often comes up at the price though, I paid £170 in May but I'm sure it had hit ~£160 on the odd occasion.

I have the Ziglint D5, and it works perfectly. The mapping function works fine, and it cleans the whole downstairs with ease. Maybe yours is faulty.

A few of the reviews on amazon mention a similar problem but some of those question if the have a faulty unit. Is your downstairs mostly hard floors? Mine has most trouble in my carpeted lounge, it can easily spend 30 minutes in there, the map on the app makes my lounge look very long as it thinks it's cleaning a new area whereas it's actually just going over the same part. The hallway and kitchen are fine but they're hard floors. Our dining room has carpet although it doesn't seem to have the problem but it's an old, harder carpet. It's also the dining room it sometimes misses out, there is a radiator cover to 1 side of the door and I think it sees the front face of that as the edge of the room and doesn't turn 90° into the room.

The deebot is less intelligent, it just goes around randomly but it seems to cover all rooms. I also feel it has better suction too. I do like the Ziglint, it still picks lots up but I feel the deebot works better.
Seen a few robot vac posts recently. Below are my comments from a similar deal ..

I have had a few of the cheaper ones and they are to be honest a bit pointless. You have to run around after them making sure they don't go under things like the TV cabinet so they don't chew wires.

They just randomly move all over the house bumping into things, and going places you don't want it to. even when its done a full clean it will have missed spots all over as it doesn't 'know' which bits it has done.
I returned mine and now have the 360 s5 (Paid about £220) and the difference if absolutely huge between the two. It has full laser mapping and stores room layouts. so you can block off areas you don't want it to go (Under the TV, Under dressing tables and so on) and it will remember for next time. Also as it uses lasers to map out the room it can intelligently clean them and does so in a 'S' / snake pattern making sure it covers all areas. Soon as its done it will return to the charger.
I would say its well worth the extra investment. It has not replaced my main vacuum. One of these will not

For another £50 it is well worth upgrading to one with laser mapping and more importantly storage of those maps

Edit: an example of the mapping here

Totally this!
The mapping functionally it's definitely worth the price difference.
The 360 S5 you mention seems to be a perfect clone of the Xiaomi Mi, and if it is as good as the Xiaomi, then it's amazing!

For my use It's better than the Xiaomi. I had the Xiaomi S5 and it can't do multiple map storage. So you set it going downstairs. Set out your boundaries and everything. Then run it upstairs and it forgets downstairs. (So everyone you run it on a diff floor your quickly adding the no go zones again) Also my Xiaomi kept telling me the brush was stuck when it wasn't

Also the app on the 360 offers more functionality

haha yeah they deffo got some 'inspiration' from xiaomi (The updated 360 app actually colours room in the exact same way the next xiaomi s6 does, its so blatant lol)

I have hard floors downstairs with a couple of rugs dotted around. It seems to go over the rugs ok, although a little slower than it does over the floor.

I did have a similar problem as you the first couple of times, where it wouldn't go into one of the rooms, so I paused it redirected it into the room using the directional controls, then restarted it, and it seemed to carry on cleaning with the current map that was on the screen.

We have carpets upstairs, but I think it's best for a normal hoover.
