What's the catch here, I've only just got a DS and had no idea this existed..

It's litterally a case of plug this card in and it does all of the above (once you've done the correct downloading/installing etc..) and then unplug it and it's just a DS again?

You generally just need to put a small bit of software on the SDHC card..... and "whatever else" you want to put on it....and plug it in.

When you take the card out, its just a normal DS again. It changes nothing in the DS hardware.

Fantastic posts you two. Thank you.

Just ordered 2, "in case"

there seems to be loads of different devices like this available, but i thought for this price it must be worth a punt to try the edge cart out?

The edge card imo is one of the best value cards out there. But some of the reports ive heard of DealExtreme has put me off ordering from them. No returns and a lot of fakes out there. Maybe get lucky though ?

I have returned many items to DX, they even refund postage.

I have never heard of fake Edge cards

I've always bought the DSTT cards off dealextreme and never had a fake or faulty one and i've had 12 now. Never had any issues with any of the gear i've bought from them, except a months delay with 1 package but it arrived eventually:thumbsup:

i have had 2 of these cards for both my kids for over 2 years now,the nare superb and in my opinion the best out there, they come with loads of firmware updates and are a doddle to use

Weee saint, i was always under the impression that dealextreme didnt do returns on ds cards. Oh well learn sumfink every day :-)

Not sure if this will work with a DSi - ie the current DS.
I can confirm that the NDSTTi from dealextreme does work! So all DSi owners should get that.
Also as others hace stated this company may take a while to deliver but they are OK so dont worry, always been satisfied and placed many orders for many items from them.

I've had issues with the DSTT's not making contact properly in the past, the Edge DS are far superior in terms of build quality (and they have slow motion)

DSi carts are blocked with latest 1.4 firmware being pushed out by Nintendo. Only M3i and DSOnei (possibly latest Ack card) with updateable firmware will be able to by-pass it (once they've worked out how). More info here.

check out the R4i card on Deal Extreme, I bought one of these and a TTDSi and the R4i is much better...

hopefully these aren' fake

Nintendo are plugging an exploit for the DSi flash carts in the coming weeks with a firmware update, so, potentially, don't expect a card you own now to work after that point.

I bought an AceKard 2 for my DS lite - took everyting I threw at it, except for the latest version of moonshell - but the older version works ok(might have been the wrong version for the card, I dunno...).
It also allowed me to run flashme and get rid of the annoying startup screen.
Needs an 8GB transflash card to be any use. Lotsa reviews, some noting the quality of the usb stick that it comes with, but I honestly think that quality is good - the transflash slot has a good spring mecanism if you use it right and it's not flimsy or badly made at all.

got mine from DealExtreme too - well packed took about a week to deliver.

Right so you cant offer them for sale or trade, but they can be made Hot in a deal..
Seriously wtf is up with this site?

The Edge card is a cut down clone of the Cyclo DS. The Cyclo DS is the best DS flashcart you can buy, and the Edge although missing a few bells and whistles is a fantastic card. This card really is much better than the more popular DSTT and all the R4 fakes that are out there...

That's why people who want flashcarts are better with a DS/DS lite......

Can these damage a Lite in anyway, do they make any modifications to the actual lite? So if I took it out it would work as normal

yes they act just like a normal cartridge.
you can fit about 45 games on a 2gb micro SD card.

TBH The TTDS card that you can get a couple of quid cheaper than this is all you would need. i have had about 10 for various people now and everyone has worked spot on.

No, no and yes

My mate has a TT card for his DS lite, is this the same sort of thing?
As he paid £20 for his.

I've never had a problem with DealExtreme. Always fast shipping and everything I've received as worked and been genuine. I've had 2 Edge flash carts and they both work fine and are good quality. Don't think the Edge has any fakes as its a clone of the CycloDS and a fake itself. I've also had the TopToy (TT) which is also a great flash cart, they've had problems with fakes at DealExtreme with the TT. The one I got was genuine. You can even get a program off the Internet for the TT to tell if its fake or not.

These really are the best cards out there, this is a great price

I've had lots of edge cards over the last few years and I've never had a problem with them, just for the record .

Makes total sense to me......

These cards will not work with the DSi.

From what I can tell, the few cards, including the NDSTTi, that previously worked with the DSi have been blocked by a recent DSi firmwhere update (30th July 2009). The only way round this is to prevent the DSi contacting the Internet.

It is possible that the NDSTTi and other cards may be able to to circumvent this issue, by firmware updating themselves at somepoint in the future. But non of them advertise that they will be do so.

Existing non compliant cards, such as this one on offer, are not likely to be firmware updatable for use with the DSi.

My advise would be to avoid buying the DSi for homebrew applications, until you know that there is a card that works and will be updated as the DSi firmware is updated. In the mean time, stick with the older console.

+++ My experience with Deal Extreme++++

As they are based in Hong Kong, there's not much to be done if they refuse to reimburse you or do not deliver your item. I have had experience of both failed delivery and failed returns. The very best advise I can give; is to pay using Paypal and make a "item not received claim" as soon as the item is overdue. You then have 20 days to escalate the Paypal claim. All future correspondance with Deal Extreme should then be made using the Paypal control panel. This way, if Deal Extreme fail to respond properly, the dispute will be found in your favour.

CycloDS and M3 are the best cards out there. Without a doubt.

I bought an R4DS SDHC which is also a great card (and cost a dam sight less than the M5), and still plays all the latest games.

These are deffinately the 'lower end' cards. However should still work fine, worth a go for just over a fiver.
Even the fakes can work okay, since they just use the origional firmware, just dont expect them to last long.

Is the R5i cards any better as suggested?

These Edge cards are fantastic. They do not harm your DS in anyway for those that are worried. Extremely easy to use and at this price are a No Brainer buy one now:thumbsup:

I've had an edge card for about 18 months now. Faultless operation throughout. I've just ordered another two for friends.

Cheers OP. Worth a punt on a couple at this price!

So is there a DSi equivalent? I haven't set my DSi to connect to the net...

Thanks.

Yes, it's the same sort of thing. The Edge card is far superior to the DSTT though.

Yes, there are a few DSi versions, I will get you some links in a moment, and edit this post to include them.

Edited to add:

Acekard 2i approx £8.10

dealextreme.com/det…728

DSTTi approx £6.74

dealextreme.com/det…944

Supercard DSonei approx £14.35

dealextreme.com/det…568

M3i Zero approx £13.68

dealextreme.com/det…858

If you intend to do firmware updates to your DSi, then I would go with one of the more expensive ones.
If you don't go on the internet etc, then I would get a Acekard2i.

I don't buy any card with DSTT or R4 in the name anymore, so get one if you want to take a punt.

why so many? :?

Have M3 Real and AceKard 2. AK2 much better IMO. R4 is over rated and I gave it away to friend. Used TTDS cards briefly before giving to relatives. Seems very good with no complaints. Not tried Edge yet, but only heard good things.

Deal Extreme are great people. Only had one problem which was easily sorted by them.
