Good price, shame I don't have a bookcase.

It's worth buying a bookcase at that price

At least I think I should be thanking you for finding the deal although I feel bad as I wasn't really looking for a new pair of speakers. Why do I have these strange feelings of guilt ? Crap I feel as though I need to confess to a priest or something !

That's the HUKD way. Save a fortune on things you didn't know you wanted/needed! You tell yourself it's a great deal even if you're spending money you wouldn't otherwise have spent.

But then I'd have to buy some books too, to make me look intelligent.
This all adds up to so much trouble for me.

I have these. They're OK. There's a noticeable drop around 100Hz due to the crossover not being well engineered and don't expect much under 60Hz, but for games and casual music listening you won't notice and they sound pretty good.

Btw make sure you connect red-red and black-black when connecting the two speakers, the cable is slightly colour coded to help you. Get the polarity wrong and the left speaker will sound tinny.

This will sound remarkably stupid but what do you connect proper speakers like these to these days? Do you need various decks and that kind of thing?

These are active speakers, so they are powered and don't require an amp.

Cheers but what connects to them for music? PC's, laptops and TV's or am I way off the ball.

Will these be an upgrade over my Corsair SP2500s?
Didnt like the sound of these. Preferred other speakers for the same price

Any of the above.
Oh my god. I literally just bought a turntable on thursday and have it plugged into a bluetooth speaker while I was looking for some half decent active speakers to get me started. Was just looking at these on amazon today for a tenner more!!! Thank you. Have some heat.

100Hz is nowhere near the crossover so not sure what's going on there.

Here you go - …Here you go - https://cpc.farnell.com/edifier/r1280db-maple/speaker-r1280db-maple/dp/CS32327?st=EdifierBlack version too - https://cpc.farnell.com/edifier/r1280db-maple/speaker-r1280db-maple/dp/CS32327?st=EdifierWorth mentioning that the R1700 are the same price! So that’s £35 cheaper than Amazon!!

That black version looks distinctly maple in colour. This one is blacker

Ok, dunno what the cause is then, but it's there.
How does the sound quality compare to sonos play 5 and Google Max?
I have a Sony AVR with Zone 2 outputs, looking to have a set of speakers in the kitchen which are able to play something from any of the audio inputs. Do I just need to run a long rca cable to these and jobs a goodun?

Does your AV have RCA outputs?

Yes has hdmi and also rca outputs for zone 2. It's Sony str-dn1080.

I think that was a review about the remote more than the speakers.

Which avr you got?
Great speakers.. they sound amazing and looks quite expensive too (no cheap feel).
I have these but with the Bluetooth (dB version) good for the price.
Handle gaming really well, music is very good but not excellent.
TV is acceptable - good.
This is all fine for me because I hooked them up optical to my PC which I mostly game on, I listen to a bit of music on it too, and occasionally watch a bit of Netflix or Amazon Prime.

I wouldn't hook them up to a TV is what I'm saying, and if you are one of those audiophiles don't bother hooking them up for music, they are very good but not audiophile quality... They are active bookshelf speakers.

Mostly they just make awesome gaming speakers.

The bad is the remote... It's a bit cheap, again hooked up to a pc not a problem as I control the speakers from the right speaker, only use the remote for on and off.

The optical is nice as there is no hiss ever.

TL:DR
Gaming good, music quite good, TV ok. Remote cheap, optical woohoo!

You don't happen to know what bluetooth protocall these use? Do they support aptx HD or LDAC? I can't seem to find any detailed info on them.

Major downgrade. Especially in bass region

That’s my favourite region!! TBH I can’t find anything that beats my speakers in the 500 range at richer sounds so I guess I’m happily stuck not paying more!
