Thanks - HOT

Also consider the GetNet GS-118P if you want 8 ports (remember 1 port is taken up with the 'feed/connection' to the rest of your network - eg your modem/router/switch.
£7.49 at Play.com currently & possible less elsewhere.
(The picture on the Play.com site is inaccurate - that was the old 5 port design.)

yes

much ass grassy ass

5 quid! It would be rude to not buy one!

Cheers OP.

No, just absolutely no way, would I buy ever one of these. Honestly Edimax switch are the bane of my work life. They are just so unreliable its driven us close to madness at work. Its unbelievable the amount of times they freeze and need resetting, or a port randomly stops working while all others are fine, or my personal grudge with this switches - packet loss and corruption. I've lost count how many times we have wasted a morning or afternoon troubleshooting network issues only to discover someone has installed an Edimax switch.

I'm trying to understand what this is..........so I can plug the ethernet cable coming in to one room in to this and I then have 4 possible wired ethernet ports that can all be used at the same time ?

Yes.

Would this switch have any impact on a fixed static IP address on one of the attached boxes?

Nice one! Hot!

been using one for 6 months to network a media player, xbox 360 and humax freesat box from one cable - no probs at all. Also, low powered so green too!
Paid £8 for it back then.

Completely clueless tech here, so please forgive my ignorance...can you tell me if this would work on a PC that doesn't have an ethernet socket, ie could it be plugged into another unrelated socket and still work? Thanks for bearing with me by reading to here without tutting, sighing and rolling your eyes!

No, it allows you to connect multiple ethernet devices together onto a single cable back to your (say) broadband router.

As an example I have a Wii, PS3 and XBOX plugged into a switch begind the telly, and a single cable then runs from the switch behind the telly to the router in the corner of the room - much neater.

but you do have to have an ethernet port and cable !

Cheers, just what I needed and great price

Cool! Just what I needed!

I really need a Gigabit one, any deals going for them?

Does speed decrease when say, im on the ps3 but another device is running which also uses this switch?

Seems to be £9.99 for me, has the price gone up or am I doing something stupid?

Why not a USBethernet converter instead then? As long as anniebee has a free USB port it should work?

shame it doesn't power off USB (requires 12V).
