excellent!! cheers!!
Can anyone confirm if this has a RED 8TB drive inside it? Looking for another one for my NAS.
friar_chris18 m ago

As I understand it, only the NAS units have reds..... These will be blues.

Blues don’t come in 8TB. This will be a Red or a white label version of a Red.
It’s a white label (5400rpm) version

This is correct.

These are white label 8tb westerndigital. They are exactly the same spec as the reds (same drive). They have TLER disabled in the firmware, this makes little difference unless running in a RAID CONFIGURATION.

As of 10 months ago, the Red seems the most likely. Deleted my comment.

Good price

It's a red drive physically but with a white lable not it's retail "red" label branding. The red drives are designed for 24/7 operation and better handle heat and vibration.

As above it also have a firmware feature dissabled that is aimed at raid usage so not 100% identical but still a very good drive for home storage.
Anyone know if these work plugged into a ps4 as storage extension?

They do.
Can the drive be removed cleanly and re-assembled into the case at a later date to claim warranty if ever needed?

But you might want to research the PS4 speed requirement for drives to store/play games from. The internal drives are built for storage, not performance read/write.

That was my worry if 5400rpm would be enough to keep up with playing a game on.

Benchmarking shows that drive speed has less effect think you would think on a PS4 - for example, upgrading to a 7200 rpm drive (the PS4 ships with a 5400 rpm drive) only shaves just over half a second off boot time.
