Doesn't this mean it's solid oak;

With a reassuringly solid design crafted from rustic oak, The Harbury Collection is made to stand the test of time. Lightly whitewashed large sideboard with panel detailed top, three doors, three soft close drawers and solid wooden handles.

Could be, but the Q&A suggests otherwise?

Q - Is the top real oak wood?
A - Hi there,
I can confirm the top and the rest of the unit are made from rustic oak.

What do you mean it's not a real deal? It's reduced in price, isn't it.
Online chat say that it's made from rustic oak and the question & answers say that it's solid oak.

You're spot on with that. Also, another quick way of checking this would be by looking at the images of the product. If you zoom in on the top you can clearly see there is no end grain at the sides of the top. The oak effect edging is wrapped around the top. Typically you'd see the end grain.

Don't get me wrong, the sideboard looks nice but its just a laminated piece. Its all down to personally preference and how much you're happy to spend.

I didn't vote either way op. Thanks for sharing non-the-less

So you are saying you bought this and it was MDF? Its not self assembly, it says it's fully assembled. Maybe your confused with another item you purchased that was similar?

Think he bought the wardrobes from the Harbury range, not this sideboard. Also comment #11 is from someone who bought this sideboard.

Edited by: "daudiamd" 7th Feb

Thanks daudiamd, I barley understood what he was saying!

I'm looking for a sideboard and thought this may fit the bill, but unfortunately I don't like the whitewash effect on closer inspection. It's a good deal nonetheless. Heat

It does look veneered, but still nice at this price

We ordered it while ago when homebase had deals. It's very heavy item. It has white wash finish which exactly looked like chip board ones.

If you are after country style look then this is not the item you would like to buy.

We returned the item for refund.

The wardrobe has an oak frame but the rest is composite wood and veneer and yes it's flat packed unlike the sideboard which comes assembled.

Don't give false info.
There is no MDF in this or the wardrobe

The wardrobe frame is solid oak and panels are composite wood with oak veneer.
I would say looking at the photos that this is similar in that the top, frame and fronts will be solid oak and the panels will be composite wood with oak veneer.

You would not get a full solid oak for this price and the weight would be to heavy for some modern floors once all the furniture was in.

The top doesn't look like solid oak at all. Its most likely veneered as well.

Ok carpenter here !!!! Looking at the pictures, outer material looks like a cheaper solid oak .
Inner selves and panels look like chipboard/MDF with a laminate/veneer. But this is a bargain price . Hot

It's NOT veneered - I have the Homebase version (the first one) that was called Constable. And I (smug face) got it for £80 (nearly fainted when it arrived as the deliveries were all getting cancelled on the HUKD thread, and Homebase didn't seem to know what was happening either).

Mostly real oak, apart from the board that goes across the back of the sideboard and bases of the drawers. I watched it being assembled and I'm sitting right next to it.

This version, Harbury, has more a subtle whitewash effect that mine doesn't have, but (I assume) they are essentially they same? And it looks lovely, no matter which price you pay. This is still a bargain.

Edit: jimmyt11 said (in reply to me) here about the Schreiber Constable Sideboard vs the Harbury: hotukdeals.com/dea…077

jimmyt11

harbury is the same design as constable but they are a different colour. … harbury is the same design as constable but they are a different colour. constable is proper oak, whereas harbury has a white wash to it.I have a load of the constable stuff and some of it is solid oak... the bits you would look at basically. I may be wrong now as it may have been changed over time to make it cheaper. but I must say im very impressed with it and I bought it all at full price.

I also got this solid wood Canonbury Bureau for £70 during that sale, around April 2016 homebase.scene7.com/is/…002?$TMB$&wid=420&hei=420

We have the narrow tall unit, double bookcase and the tv unit and it's all solid oak. It's very heavy and is already assembled! Great find I may order this!

Good price, heat added

I can see the Argos listing says Fully Assembled - that's even better - mine (Constable version) was in a flat pack!

Looks like its made up of bits and pieces stuck together to make a decent sized bit of wood! It the furniture equivalent of a sliced ham 'made from carefully selected cuts of pork'

And as usual with Argos' huge savings ......... Please note item 4978781 has previously been on sale at £199.59

Still a reduction, but not quite the £350 they suggest you are saving

Well, I've just ordered one as we're in need of a sideboard. Even if it's not great at this price it'll do us for a while until we find something else. If it's as good as Argos claim then were on a winner.

Would a biorb aquarium sit on this ok?

The drawer fronts are definitely not solid wood. They all have the same grain pattern (middle one is 180 Degrees to outer ones) Vernier at best.
