EE MAX speeds on SIMO (“Go Faster Add-On”) - £2pm

For some of you this may be relevant if you are considering renewing your EE SIMO plan but are deterred because of EE no longer offering MAX plans (fastest speeds) on SIMO plans:

There’s actually a little known add-on called “Go Faster” that you can add to your contract at £2pcm.

So if you are either tied into a contract without realising that you no longer have MAX speeds or if you are able to negotiate a good SIMO deal where £2 extra is still better than the nearest plan outside EE, this one is for you!

PLEASE NOTE: as far as I can tell, this will not come with further benefits of MAX, like roaming in the USA for example.

Max plans no longer give 5 countries outside EU on sim only as per pic^ so buying a cheaper sim deal and a £2 speed boost add on may be beneficial.

Only if you shout "EE" continuously while driving.
Tiptop spot, have some warmth
What about us already on a MAX plan, will we remain or will they downgrade us?
4g should be 4g, not pay more for better speed, which other network does this? I dont get 4g everywhere i go.

We'll continue to get max speed as long as we don't change price plan. Same applies to the 5 additional roaming countries.
"Sorry we were unable to process your request, if you continue to receive this message please call us on 150." Well nevermind then.
Those who may benefit from this speed add on who don’t have unlimited mins may benefit from 200 min £5 add on instead of 50p a minute outside plan allowances ee.co.uk/hel…-on

What can you do on your phone that can utilise the additional speeds?

You get up to 60 mbps as standard which should be plenty fast enough for most people. For a while EE when they've introduced a new faster speed the top speed is reserved for those on special tariff while the rest get the level below that. The standard speed is usually as fast if not faster than the other networks offer as EE have invested a lot more in the speed of their network. They want to get a return on that investment by charging a premium for it.

60mbps is good enough.3g did the job but this 2 tier pricing Is just as bad as paying for hd on sky. Pay more or we mess your eyesight up. Lol
5 extra countries are still in cluded on new max plans.Just upgraded the other day and it still includes them.

Yes. Very likely, this threat is about SIMO plans that have lost access to fastest speeds (£2pcm extra) and more roaming countries (£10pcm extra)
I’ve just activated this add-on. Went straight to the Speed Test app, but I’m getting dismal results (download speeds under 15 Mbps ). Any idea whether the add-on takes effect immediately or not? I’m pretty sure I’ve managed to get better speeds pre-add-on while on this very same spot .

Well. If the signal was never 60mbps then you would not get the max speeds because of the add on. The add on only allows for you to go above 60mbps where signal allows for it.
True, but it’s still disappointing. I’ll record a few more tests while out and about as I want to make sure there’s a point to paying extra.

But then again, I should have gotten used to UK providers advertising speeds only a minority of people seem to ever reach, under very optimal conditions.
Turns out my phone does not support 4G+ (AKA LTE Advanced), which is the technology that allows for the faster speeds. I called EE today to cancel the add-on and suggest that they should inform customers when advertising this add-on that only certain handsets will support the technology allowing for faster speeds. They said my feedback would be passed on, removed the add-on, and gave me a £10 compensation for the inconvenience.

Before getting this add-on, confirm you can actually benefit. Wikipedia has a page with a ‘List of devices with LTE Advanced’ that I’ve found useful.
