Err - isn't that the contract version where you have to give them your details, they sign you up (credit search?) then you need to cancel the contract when you get home? The 2GB data SIM is about 8 quid so you're saving about 12 quid only?

but once the 2gb is used its gone, and let's be honest 2gb doesnt last that long nowadays. then you need to either top it up or buy a new SIM. £20 for 15gb of data, cancel when you get home, then you have over 7times more data for the same price. I know its only 30days but will 2gb last that long?

It's £14.95 from Currys in total (£10 for 1st month of 1GB) and either way you can put another EE Sim (We have a the EE 200GB one here waithing to use) or your own Sim in it (99p unlock code from Fleabay)....it was much more convenient to get this one so the extra few quid was worth it for us, especially as the Currys ones are getting sparse but our Asda has loads of these.

The Currys Deal?, or the Asda Deal?.

Asda

What is the difference between this and the Osprey 2? Anyone know?

Bought one of these about 6 months ago on a Carphone Warehouse deal, works very well, good battery life and easy to unlock.

Unlocked mine on eBay for 99p

sorry to hijack the thread but could anyone recommend a data sim for italy please.
going to the lakes in august and 4 teenage girls need internet as an essential part of their life.
thanks in advance.

We got a data sim at the airport for mifi, likely not cheapest but ensured we had data in airport and to hotel - i think it was 25eur for 3gb last year. The bureaux de change sell them.

6gb prepay 4G EE sim, £15 on Amazon. Lasts 3 months. Don't top up, just buy another when it runs out, it works out much cheaper. No risk of stupid charges for exceeding your data limit. Not aware of any unlimited deals at a decent price.

buy an Italian sim card once you get to Italy (unlock device before you go), go to a local mobile phone shop once you arrive. Not sure how upto date this is but have a read here http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel-g187768-c5431/Italy:Sim.Card.Purchase.In.Italy.html

Osprey 2 is smaller, lighter, battery lasts longer and battery can be used as a powerbank

Anyone know if it has a network port you can plug a cable into?

Before anyone pipes up. I work from home and our work laptops have the wifi disabled so they have to be plugged in to the router.

If you have a contract with 3 mobile then data roaming in Italy is free. Its one of their "feel at home countries". Went to Milan in Feb and didn't pay a penny to use phone/texts/data streaming.

Even works with payg sims with an added top up too.

Voted hot for the price - 4G for about £20. Just a shame there is no external antenna or Ethernet connection

You need buy additional router or repeater, cheapest is tplink3020 or is wifi extender with LAN port tplink 850 or 820 you will get signal from osprey to one of devices mentioned or if you have 3020 you can buy just dongle and plug in usb port if isnt reformiści dongle usually charging firmware to alternative like openwrt gargoyle will solve your problem but all require to be Powered from mail or 3020 will work with good powerbank not cheapest ones

Really need a decent deal again on this that I can buy online. No-where near an Asda...

Just to add for the people that are asking, I got one of these and unlocked it through the carphone warehouse deal and just keep buying the three sim cards from Currys when they are around £3 something for 1GB and they work great even abroad in this device!

You can use the Three network in Italy.
I have just rang Three to find out if it was better to buy a PAYG sim here that you could use In Italy too
The advisor said roaming is not allowed on PAYG so you would need buy a sim when you get there

He did give another option which sounds better.
Roaming is allowed on the 30 day rolling contract SIM so it will work in Italy and the UK
In addition you won't be allowed to go over your data allowance so won't get any extra extortionate charges
Minor downside is once you have used up the data for that month you can't buy any more but you could get 2 sims each on 30 day rolling contract. If you are going for a couple of weeks then best thing to do is give cancellation notice on the day you sign up to the 30 day contract

The max data you can get per sim is 10GB for £15 p/m

The adviser also said the APN settings for Three in the UK and Italy are the same - you don't need to change any settings in the mifi so you can use it at home here or whilst you are waiting at the airport.

If you need more info the number for Three is 0800 358 9341

How about this for £4.97. Unfortunately its a pay monthly deal but I am sure I read comments on another HUKD thread that you cancel the rolling monthly contract as soon as you have bought the device.

Alas, I don't think a mobile phone SIM would work in this. Or maybe it would but they'd be within their rights to cut you off.

He told you a load of rubbish, you can use PAYG sim's on feel at home destinations. Have used them in Spain recently no problem, although I think that through their roaming agreement the speed is throttled a lot, I couldn't pull more that 1.5Mb and I was 100m from the cell site.

Thank you all for some great info. This site and the users are fantastic.

Well that's what he told me so there !

On Three PAYG you now only get 3 GB for £20 so 10 GB for £15 is a pretty good deal.
Even if the 30 day cancellation does not go through till the next month then all you will have spent is £30 for 20 GB at 10GB p/m
which would the equivalent of 4.5 GB on PAYG. I'm sure four social media addicted selfie snapping teenagers would cane 4.5 GB in a matter of days.

Were you actually using the Three network or or a roaming agreement with another provider ?
