EE Plans cheaper on 12 month contracts! (in the long run)

Found 31st Oct 2012
I did a little bit of research...

The 12 months contracts on EE are 10£ more expensive than the 24th month contracts. (Note that the phone price is the same) So after 12 months you would have spend 120£ more with a 12mths contract.
However...
EE was supposed to offer sim only deals that were 15£ cheaper than normal contract (for the same data allowance)
You can still find this info in the google cache:
webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:9f9wbTalHx0J:ee.co.uk/pla…=uk

So if those sim only plans are maintained, you can switch to sim only after 12 months and get a plan which is 15£ cheaper than on a 24 months contract.

After 8 months (i.e a total of 20 month) you will start saving 5£ a month compared to a 24th months contract.

Of course, keep in mind that other operated are likely to launch 4G next year and better SIM only deals will be available. So it is very likely that getting a 12 months contract will save you some money!

Also for those that thinks that getting an unlocked phone + sim only plan is cheaper, just do the math:
Sim only 1GB: 26£*12 = 312£
12month contract 51£*12= 612£ +50£ (handset cost for lumia 920) = 662£
=> The phone costs you 350£ (possibly less if you get cashback for the contract )
instead of 450£

So be carefull when choosing your contract and your phone!

way over priced to begin with, defo waiting for the rivals to launch - and for a genuine unlimited plan.

The other half went to get his Samsung Galaxy S3 upgraded to 4G, he was told by T Mobile it would be £145 for a new phone as his 'old phone wasn’t compatible and a further £56/month for 4EE contract!!! oO Needless to say he walked straight out.

EE must be nuts?
Who are they trying to kid?!

ICE COLD!

did u watch watchdog 500mb on 4g is used in just over 3 mins! u have to buy unlimited to not get a massive bill.

I would hold out, Three will have 4G in some cities by Christmas 2012.

First of all, since when does anyone use time to measure data?
It's kind of like asking someone "How big is your house?" and someone responding "30 seconds", it doesn't make any sense.

Secondly, there's no difference between 500MB of data on 3G and 500MB of data on 4G, other that 4G will be quicker.

Yes, we all know the plans are a bit expensive, but I'm paying O² £42/month for 500MB of 3G, and I really would jump to EE if I could, prices will only go up over the years.

£42pm for 500MB with o2, ouch! Sorry don't take this the wrong way but I would say o2 are already having your pants down so no wonder EE doesn't sound a bad idea to you...

I'll wait to see what three offer, also the BBC did some speed checks on the day 4g was launched and some were slower than 3g.

4g seems only to work parts of each city ie some parts of north London is still 3g!

AVOID 4G from EE

Well said.

Ordered the Nokia 920 with EE as it works out ok. The phone is £469 on its own, the contract is only 12 months and they are throwing in a free wireless charger which is around £40.

I've got a 4G phone and I'm on unltd hdpsa for hitting 7-9mb... The only functions 4G will improve are streaming downloading etc ie data munchers... Which I won't be able to use on EE anyway due to the data plans so completely pointless, 3 EE stores near me all very quiet yesterday

May I ask where you finally ordered from and which tariff?

Samsung sell various version of the S3 depending on whether it's 3G or LTE, and also dual and quad core. Your one is probably a quad core 3G version as Samsung couldn't be bothered to get their quad core CPU working with LTE.

what recession is this guy living on!..its obvious that they work for EE hence why the promotion!

Well you are all totally missing the point here.... Do the maths......

iphone 5 = £600 on its own

12 month tariff with ee @ £66 a month for the 8gb + 30 upfront fee = 822

822 - cost of the phone (600) = 222

222/12 is the relative cost of your data plan which = 18 pound a month for ultra fast 4g with 8gb of allowance... Sounds like a pretty FANTASTIC deal to me.

RL

12 month contracts have vanished from the Phones4U website. The cashback available via TCB was tempting me to buy, but not over 24 months.

EDIT: Just found this.

http://support.phones4u.co.uk/pe/action/forums/displaypost?postID=10362384

Are they trying to totally screw up the launch of the 920 or are they really this incompetent?

I'm not the first person to say this, but I'm close to abandoning all thoughts of purchasing a 920 and going with companies that actually want to sell me something.

Thought you could buy the iPhone 5 16GB (unlocked) for £530.

Boycott EE they are scam, 500MB for £21 what the f***

OMG, have you seen what they've done to the handset prices of the Lumia 920 on the 12 month tariffs?!

shop.ee.co.uk/nok…fs/

I'm in the same position. I really want a Lumia 920 but the release date is completely ambiguous, I can only get it on EE and currently the only way that I can seem to get it SIM only is to order it from Germany or Italy on pre-order as they dont have any carrier exclusives.

Vodafone have also confirmed that they will not have the Lumia 920 until they launch 4G as it will be their flagship model.

NOKIA - You are complete and utter idiots. I'm THIS close to buying an 8X or wait until Tuesday and getting a Nexus 4. I'm done with Apple and my 4S so I'm definitely making the move. It's just a shame that Nokia have been completely unconvincing with their launch strategy or ... well, any of their sales and marketing plans. It's maddening.

Monkey nuts 2

An unlocked iPhone 5 32GB is £600

The launch of the 920 really couldn't be any worse! I've been in phones4u a few times in the last week with no prevail of getting a sim free 920.

How stupid are Nokia, they finally bring out a great phone but cant seem to launch it in the UK!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not the most powerful phone out at the moment? Its the only phone out with wireless charging, its got NFC, a really good camera, nice CPU and a very powerful screen. A lot of reviews say its very heavy so I'm waiting to have a look at one in a shop first though

The nexus 4 also has NFC, wireless charging and a powerful CPU for a lot less than this will sell for sim free. Depends what OS you prefer though.

True but the deal is for a 16GB iPhone 5.

Thanks for that, I haven't looked at the nexus 4 yet. I do prefer WP, but if I cant manage to get a 920 soon I might give up and look at the nexus 4
