Is the only difference the 6 cell battery?

The main difference with the 901 over the 900 is the Intel Atom Processor over the older slightly slower Celeron. The speed isn't that big a issue but the the Atom is optimized for low power usage so should extend the battery life by a hour or two. Bluetooth is also included with the 901.

Great find been wanting for one of these for ages! Heat added.
Just so you know that the Linux version is 20GB but if you look at the XP version it only comes with 12GB and it's not a typo on the website. The reason for this is that due to popular demand, Asus were forced to bring out an XP version because people wanted it, don't know why you would want XP on it because it runs slower than the Linux one. The reason for the lower spec HD is that Microsoft were a little expensive in organizing licenses for the 901 so Asus had to cut a corner somewhere to keep it in the same price bracket as the Linux version, if I were you I'd go for the Linux version there are no compatibility issues at all. Hope that helps!

Oh also there is free delivery on this but only if you order by the end of the month otherwise it's an extra £11 to £15's.

The EEE 1000 is at £379 and has a 10inch screen and double the SSD space available at 40Gb as well as a larger keyboard. However, that does mean that overall the notebook itself is bigger and heavier at 1.3kg compared to 1.1kg for the EEE 901.

Been waiting for these to come around for a long time, although, been priced above PRP though ? When are they expected to come in stock plus are back orders been booked right now

I would not pre-order the 901, all indications are it will be cheaper than this.

I want the xp version so my 3 mobile broadband will work with it straight away no messin (yes you can faff and get it to work with linux..eventually.. but with xp you just pop it in and the drivers are already there)

given the 901 has the atom then I much prefer this to the hp 2133

an optical drive would have been nice but I s'pose this is more of a netbook than a laptop

I'd just use this for surfin and checking e-mails (maybe edit the odd .doc or .xls from time to time)

hope they drop in price tho

Yes but like the 901 if you go for XP then they give you a smaller SSD . Choose Linux and you'll get a larger capacity SSD. Worth going for if you've got a spare XP license you're not using and don't like Linux

Anyone know what kind of SSD they use? Standard 2.5" connection?

Think not

PCI Mini connector according to wiki

with a zif drive cable connecter and 1.8" drive you can replace the 12gb or 20gb storage with a 30, 60, 80gb and more drive, the same as in an ipod

wouldn't that invalidate the warranty?

Are the 901's available yet???

eBuyer have 'em (Win OR Linux) for £299.99 inc VAT and delivery
